    Fiesta Puma swap wiring help

So my grey Puma is officially dead from tinworm

To make myself feel better I have bought a nice Fiesta Zetec S 1.6 and a mate is in the process of swapping in the engine for me

The info we can find online regarding the wiring is poor / conflicting to say the least, both cars are 2001 and have digital dashes with 2 plugs on the fuseboard so from what I've read they should be compatible but what exactly is the procedure for the wiring so it works first time?

Any other tips for the conversion while we're at it? I have a complete Puma and a complete Fiesta so just looking for the best way to do the swap.

Have you got any pictures of how you're getting on?

I have heard it's more or less plug and play.

I know it's supposed to be 'easy', but it's nice to know that there's someone doing it (who may have his brains picked in the near future) only a few miles from me.

Alternatively I might sort out the rest of the rust and keep the Puma, it's a real hoot to chuck it around without getting into ban territory.

I had a mk4 fiesta with a 1.7 lump on throttle bodies many moons ago....so much fun.....can't for the life of me remember how the wiring went though!

Have you checked zsoc.com, used to be a lot of info on there.

It is more or less plug and play, yeah. You have to remove the entire engine bay loom including fuse box and right up to the ECU plug from the Puma. You need to get at the rear ABS sensor wiring which goes to the back as it's part of this loom. You need to swap a couple of pins if you want your reverse light to work, and if you want your front fogs to work (if you have a Zetec S) then you need to strip out the wiring from the Fiesta loom and add it into the Puma one.

The mechanical part is easy, you can swap the whole subframe with the engine mounted to it, just drop it out of the bottom. There's a couple of other fiddly bits with fuel pipe and the throttle cable, like shifty babe says zsoc is the place for info, until I found that I was relying on idiots on passionford etc

my son has done two puma into fester swaps and my daughters boyfriend did another, they used the lesser models like one was a 1.3 ohv valencia mk5
other was a mk4 with the 1.25 lump and I think the plug and play easy peasy quote comes from doing it to them models
one of them went on a dyno and made 136 at the wheels just Magnex cat back zorst and air filter mods,
still had stock manifold and cat, over 100k miles scrap yard motor, it pulled over 150 on a sat nav,of course on a private road in Mexico,
I was amazed at the combo of 200 squid fester + £120 puny lump and g/box beat loads of so called quick cars

I used to mock the puma until I got to drive one relatively hard. Loved the way it handled and tbh it had enough power. Been told by con2k that the chassis on the fiesta is better due to having more weight at the rear making it less twitchy and likely to experience lift off oversteer.

Pumas are great. Did a trackday in one I bought from a salvage auction and it went all day when everyone else's car had given up the ghost. Handling is sweet, turns in like nothing else, just wished it had a bit more power for the straights.

Going to take the Fiesta to Abingdon on the 24th as long as it's finished in time

I still say the Racing Puma is one of the most fun cars I have ever driven. Would love to drive one thats had the RS lump fitted. Pumas were not popular in petrolhead land as they were classed as girls cars but Ford got it spot on. Just a shame they didnt develop it further.

Too many people compared them to that girly POS the Vauxhall Tigra at the time

    I'd kill for an FRP!

nice install very stealthy OE looking, the Mk5 zetec S in black looks nice as well, my Mum had one from near new,I bought it for my son
and he sort of learnt how to drive in it,,about 20k miles later it threw a rod so violently a chunk of engine block cracked the windscreen
we think/guess a chunk made it out the back of the bonnet and pinged off one of the wiper arms,it went another 40 miles on 3 pots
till another rod had enough of going up and down, then it locked solid

That looks pretty clean. I wouldn't mind one of these to put some miles on actually.

Yeah it's been well looked after - only 2 previous keepers and the guy I bought it from had it 8 years.
