    Ester racing marketed oils .

5W40 , probably Fuchs Titan Race Pro S and Millers CFS NT+ Nanodrive .

If it's not hard tuned and isn't getting beaten up on track every day then just a branded fully synthetic 5w-40 will be half the price and do just as well.

Could you use a 12 Centistoke high quality 30 grade , almost and just 0.50 away from a 40 grade ?

    Is petronas 3000 e 5w40 good? There is a 30% off online if I ordered so I thought I'd order 5ltr

It's of a decent specification. I'd use it.

If you want the best get fuchs titan race pro. It's ester based and recommended by the oil man.

If you want normal good castrol edge is good stuff.

5w/40 is the recommended grade for our cars.

is that what is recommended? I thought it was 10-40.

I've been using 10-40 Magnatec for literally 100k with no issues..no VVT rattle or anything (this was of course before my engine died but there is more to it)

This conversation could go on forever there are lot of choices! At the end of the day as long as you change it regularly and keep an eye on the level you should be fine.

I've personally been using 5w30 for the past 3-4 years done over 25k and car currently on over 140k and loads of drift days. I change the oil every 2-3k and the filter every 5-6k, sometimes sooner if i've done a lot of drift days. So far no problems. I work in the trade (mechanic) it is surprising how many of the high priced oils are very similar spec to 'some' cheaper less well known ones.

Why the hell would you use Castrol Magnatec 10W40 it's a semi synthetic .

Castrol Edge 5W40 is a VW 505.01 and 13 Centistokes @100 °C thus a thin 40 grade , it's a step in the right direction as the additive package will have a high dose of ZDDP to protect a vulnerable narrow lobed VAG PD camshaft .

But VW's top PD and a LongLife oil is 5W30 507.00 and 12 Centistokes so a thick 30 grade, a miniscule 0.50 more and it would be classed as a 40 .

This 507.00 can contain top group 5 ester oil basestock as found in the ester racing marketed oils from Fuchs , Millers, Red Line, Motul , and Gulf .

because after 100k miles of no VVT rattle no apparent engine issues running including 30k+ plus at HDev 3a at 1.4+bar id encountered no issues...thats why

i will add, I did speak to Opie oils about this a few weeks back and like you he was surprised i was and had been using that oil since the day i bought it in 2004 but it seemed to be fine...like i said i was under the impression 10-40 was recommended...

as I've mentioned my engine has suffered a malfunction of some description, so a new engine is going in my car isn't used in anger like some...as in no drifting (well intentional anyway)

so perhaps it might be worth shifting over to 5w-40

I used to use mobil 1 15/50 back in the day. Used it for about 5 years as it used to be the best (in fact one of the only) synthetic oils readily available on the market.

    How times have changed lol!

5/40 is what the oil man recommended. But he recommends based on mods/mileage and use of car. So horses for course I guess.

You seem to know your stuff mate.

So castrol edge 5w30 or 5w40? Note for next time.

    Castrol Edge 5W30 .

    Castrol Edge 5W40 is 502.00 505.00 505.01

Castrol Edge 5W30 is 504.00 507.00 and out performs the above on 5 oil performance parameters inc wear .

Plus also being a LongLife oil it will be in a better condition near the end .

But you don't have to be Brand slag , Castrol although approved has a clever 4L marketing trick .

The bargain approved is Quantum LongLife III and is made at the same refinery in Gent , Belgium .

After is always a case of what do you use it for - prolonged periods of high oil temps like regular Autobahn or track where a thicker grade is needed .
