    Ignition timing?

Hey guys, just recently finished fixing the headgasket on my CA. I'm trying to set the ignition timing right now, but it seems weird to me that I have to turn the CAS all the way anti-clockwise to get the timing light to show 15°

Is this normal? Or does anyone have an idea of why it would be doing that?

    Cheers

    Belt is a tooth out
Worn keyway or woodruff key on crank
    Worn cas or exhaust cam
    Faulty cas

That's the main issues to cause it mate i am going on being a tooth out!

As above, plus make sure you've got the top cover correctly located on its dowels.

In all honestly though, it's probably the cam splines worn out - take the cas off and take a picture of them.

I sold him a good exhaust cam so isn't the cam but i would definitely be looking at the cas! Even think i advised that both need replacing?

I don't think it's a tooth out, cause I just put the belt on about a week ago and I counted it a whole bunch of times to make 100% sure it was on right. I guess I'll have to check again if nothing else fixes it

As for the CAS and Exhaust Cam, I had this same problem on this engine before it was pulled apart for the headgasket, and I bought a replacement exhaust cam from Pointz which I've just put in. I'll grab a picture of the CAS tomorrow, but I was told last time that it didn't look too bad (if I remember correctly)

What is a keyway / woodruff key on crank?

When you took the crank pulley off, you'd have seen the locating woodruff key in the crank nose. Did you notice any wear on it?

If it turns out I'm needing a CAS, does anyone have one to sell? I can't find one on eBay or anything

id say your CAS and cam look fine.

put some copper slip on the splines when you refit it.

Do you have any kind of vacuum leaks? That would throw the idle out which in turn will effect timing.

As green rs says they look fine (cas is slightly worn but not to the extent to put timing off)

May be worth just checking the keyway to rule it out, anyone local to you got a cas you could try?

I didn't notice any vacuum leaks, but I'll check that later! yeah I'm gonna check the belt and keyway later today or tomorrow, I just need to find a puller tool to get the crank pulley back off

Just remove the aux belt pulley mate if the keyway is damaged it should be pretty obvious!

Make sure its sitting square and has no movement side - side
