    Top Gear £100 Car Challenge

So me and my 2 brothers have been having a chat... over a few drinks and decided to do a Top Gear Challenge. Road trip from Essex to Benal Madena (Costa Del Sol) in cars that cost no more than £100.

It is going to be for charity to so get ready for the justgiving page...

So what would you buy for it... for £100

I would have thought you'd struggle to get anything for£100. Aren't most cars with more than that as scrap ?

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great idea, just questioning your budget.

Or do you get a grand to make it sound before you go ?

or if you really want to rock the £100 car look try this - the ultimate in reliability and build quality, should be perfect for all those donkey paths you're going to be driving along

Things just start to go massively over budget from there. I mean who can afford £110 for a Ford KA?!

Like others have said, £100 is cutting it fine as it's almost scrap value.

the scrap price of cars (mixed metal) is at rock bottom. something like £45 a tonne (that's what the yards are paying not the pikey with a transit and an advert in the paper) so someone trying to shift a ford KA with no MOT for £100 is trying it on. scrap micra's seem to go for £60 topps on the micra owners club.

by the time you factor in getting the thing driveable/mot/tax/insurance its just not worth the hassle. the top gear gang have a support team with them. you would be real pissed if your old banger explodes 100 miles into the journey.

although if I was to do something like this I think I would try to buy a decent large luxury car. like a bmw 520 or a rover 600 or something.

Big Merc's can be had stupid cheap, the mechanical's are usually decent it's rot that kills them off.
£4-500 is a more realistic price, it's more the price range for something thats still mechanically good.

I know. I have a CLK with rusting arches.

    £500 is the new budget.

I've just found a jag for £350 lol

X300 is a much better option than an X308 for what you want to do.

What year is it and why is it £350 ?

Check the electrics carefully as they were a bit ahead of their time so to speak. Also check the suspension for play.

Even a 3.2 Executive makes 240 brake and they're a very nice way to mile munch.

I'd try to avoid a LWB model if you can. Its not a big problem but they are that little bit more unwieldy to drive on twisty roads.

On the flip side, if there is going to be 4 of you, your passengers will love you if you get the LWB and the SWB is surprisingly short of legroom in the back. Obviously not compared to a 200

My business partner is doing Benidorm or Bust this year: http://www.benidormorbust.co.uk/

Think its a £500 budget and he has got a Volvo V40 IIRC. Working air conditioning is the most important thing for something like this IMO.

A good call that man, but they hold their money well and getting one for 100 that is usable for this event may take some searching
and knocking someone down a lot on asking price, a late 90's/early 2k Corolla possibly or a gen 6 around 2k MY Celica seen them
going for close to the 100 budget, possibly better for interior space an early honda jazz but again getting something usable for 100?
yes one is biased towards toyboata and ponda for reliability , the 100 squid budget is real bottom of the barrel no MOT/need work for MOT sheds
my local scrapers dont pay much for cars only £34 for a complete medium sized shed ,trail yards for something they will let go for a quick flip 100?
