    S13 running issues please help

    Hey guys need some advice.
    S13 ca18

I picked up my s13 the other week
After a drive back 50 miles
Drove ok slight hesitant on boost .

So far after going through the car it's got

    3" downpipe/decat
    3" shotgun ghetto fab catback
    Walbro 255 pump
    S14 turbo /braided lines
    Adjustable actuator
    Air intake
    Apexi air fuel controller
    Stage 2 horsham chip ecu

Since having the car I have found myself going over previous bodges from other owners it's had .
Still not running right .. will a front mount intercooler make it run smoother on boost .

Seem to turn on sometimes and idles rough then won't rev up then turn it off then on again and runs ok ..

Smells of fuel and oil .. but it has a bad oil leak somewhere so put it down to that .but the amount of smoke out of the exhaust smells of fuel and seems to be alot of condensation

Is there any tips on what to check
    Thanks

I do have a front mount to fit I may add

First things first would be to search for boost leaks.

Second thing would be clean AFM.

It is one of those things unfortunately - you just have to chase around the usual suspects.

Out of interest how much boost is it running?

The boost gauge says 16psi but it's a ebay jobbie

I'd turn that down for a start. On a T28 and wing mount I'd say that's about 2 or 3 psi too high to be safe.

Probably has got a nasty little boost leak somewhere on that wing mount.

You would have to be silly to fit a stage 2 chip before fitting a front mount imo (assuming you bought it this way?)
Rip out the apex safc (they are crap imo)

Do you know it has walbro or you going on the sellers word?

    Stg2 chip requires-

    Walbro
    Fmic
    T28
Boost control able to achieve 14psi
    Free flow exhaust
    Freeflow air filter
Ngk bcpr7es plugs gapped to 0.8mm

If it smells like its running rich, then as Arry says its probably a boost leak. Less likely but an easy suspect to check is the plugs.

Unless what is in there is fresh NGK BCPR7ES gapped to 0.8mm (not the 1.1mm that the manual tells you) then swap whatever is in there out for the 7s. They're only a tenner for a set.

Next, I'd do a compression test. If you hadn't said the boost gauge was shite, I'd have said check the vac on idle. It should be around -18 inHg. If its around -10-14 then that could indicate worn inlet valves. A compression test is a better indicator.

I'd get a decent gauge, controller and fit the FMIC in that order. The FMIC will only lower the intake temps and reduce the chance of det. Unless you are getting a tinkling noise with the hesitation, its probably not det, just duff spark. However, fitting different pipework and an FMIC may well remove any existing boost leak as the WMICs do have a tendency to crack.

Also, as has already been pointed out, EVERYBODY says "there is a walbro in there" but unless you've checked....

When you check, you'll find that the o-ring won't seal any more. They are about a tenner from Nissan part no. 17342-01A00 or you can bodge it pikey style and cut about an inch out of the old one and refit, sealing the join with a small blob of silicone. The problem is that they swell when exposed to petrol.

Never had a front mount when I brought it... .tbf he didn't even know it had a stage 2 ecu ..

He said it's got a boost problem hesitates .. and was supposedly told a boost controller would sort the issue ..

He didn't even know it had a walbro until I went to fit one it had one allready I brought the car from some guy in lymington

I used to use 5W40 Fuchs Titan supersyn . Inexpensive, good oil and warms up quicker than 10W40. If you're going to rag it, it comes in 10W50.
