Did my CA18DET s13 ever come with a catalytic converter
Hi guys,
was just wondering as I'm not sure it has one now, if CA18DET powered 200sx's ever came with a cat out of the factory? I've heard they can pass an MOT without one but was just wondering! and also i wasn't sure how to identify one as mine has a baffler looking thing after the downpipe and then also near the backbox.
Cheers!

Most likely came with one from the Factory, but you don't need to have one fitted to pass the MOT.

What year is it?
S13's do not require a cat.

Mine is a J-reg, so 1992 I think.

Is it an oem exhaust or aftermarket.

I'm guessing aftermarket as it's pretty thick and has a large backbox and centre baffler but there is a box with "nissan" on it after the downpipe

All UK spec cars with chassis number 200001 and higher came with a CAT. CAT was required from Aug 1992 onwards.
They don't need a CAT as Lambda correction isn't full range, it goes open loop at 3200 rpm. Due to this it is not listed in the VOSA vehicle emissions data book so if it fails the BET test (quite likely) it has NON CAT TEST.
