    What brakes

hi guys ive got a 14a doing a little winter freshen up just want a little advice on brakes really currently got mtec disks and ebc red pads with some high temp race fluid earlier this year i went to nurb and the brakes faded within 5 miles and ruined my experiance and later warped on the gp track after 4 laps im planning on going again next year just want a decent setup without costing me a arm and a leg can anyone recommend a good setup off another car reliable tested brands

    thanks in advance

Completely depends on your price range. You could get various model skyline brakes from r32/33's pretty cheap. The best probably being the r33 gtr brembos which you can get for around £500 if thats too much a set of r32 gtr or r33gtst calipers are your next best bet. If you really want proper track performance though you'd probably have to get some aftermarket calipers or maybe even r35 brembos if you've got serious cash to spare.
For the rears pretty much everyone goes for 300zx calipers but you will have to run new handbrake cables and drum mechs for the handbrake.

I'd say your best bet would be z32 tt or r33 gtst calipers front and rear, get a big brake spacer up front, with drilled, grooved and vented discs and personally I can't fault yellow stuff pads. Also get a bm-57 from a z32 with a brake stopper and dot 4 or dot 5.1 brake fluid.

Should be able to pick all that up pretty cheap if you look about and should give you a spot on all round system, think the reason you got brake fade before was the red stuff pads, they're not made for track use they're fast road at best. Yellow stuff are good all rounders and actually work on road as well as track, if it's purely track car though you could go green stuff, but they'll be terrible for road use.

good ducting and airflow wont hurt either.

braided lines wont help much with cooling but they really help pedal feel

So recommended is something like z32 calipers I've seen people fit 315mm discs to these ? Braided lines and air ducts it's gonna be mainly used on road 90% of the time and probably 6 track days a year and nurb

Take the EBC pads out and throw them in the bin, that would be a good start. We make a conversion kit to run 324mm front discs or by the end of this month we will have a conversion kit for the Evo8 calipers. There are many good pads out there, depends on your budget but I personally cannot fault the Project Mu pads that we supply. When you need to stop they will stop you :P

My opinion is to just get K-Sports on the front. By the time you factor in a full refurb to any sort of brembo callipers (if done by a specialist) will works out more. K-Sports are tried, tested and on the money. The best £1000 I spent. No ****ing around with conversion adaptors blah blah blah. They just bolt right on.

Find a set of r33 gtst rear calipers (300zx) and mechs and jobs a gooden.

You will stop like you've hit a wall

Why hasn't anyone mentioned the 350z brembo's?? Pretty much the the same as the skyline gtr brembo's.
Same rotor size ect and they are bolt on and seem to be £200 cheaper than the skyline gtr brembo's
    Correct me if I'm wrong

But the time you factor in new decent discs. New pads. New braided lines. I bet you any money you're getting close to the cost of k sports.

They are the same as the 33gtr brembos but with 14mm bolts instead of the standard m12's for skylines and s bods so you have to drill out your hubs.

I was going to suggest Aston Brembos with brackets but they seem to have rocketed in price! Evo 8 etc are good and have brackets available online to use evo discs.

Z32tt fronts aren't an upgrade other than saving you a small amount of weight. I have some barely used project mu s if you decide to keep the s14 calipers. Pm me if interested.

what jonny says, z32 fronts/r32 gtst are just alloy versions of s14 calipers.

personally I would use r33gtst brakes all round with decent discs/pads.. corbon lorriane or some decent endless etc.. EBC are just shit chavy pads.

    ^^ that's my opinion anyway^^

I've had green ,red , yellow which I think entitles me to an opinion.

spacing small calipers to fit larger discs just seems abit crazy to me.. its what you would do to a show car when you fit 22" wheels.

ferrodo DS2500's are pretty good on the track and not so bad on the road. they are quite an old pad so you could find better ones maybe that's why I suggested carbon Lorraine, only bad things ive heard on these is that the dust ruins wheels but then so do gravel traps.

I have ds2500's in my s13 with z32 brakes all round but I don't do solid track work only fast big drifty type stuff so don't get the chance to try to make them fade. they stop the car pretty damn well from 100+ when the circuits put massive tyre walls.

I did have some endless SS in the s13 and they were pretty good but wore out pretty quick and gave off decent amounts of dust.

I had ds2500's in my s15 with r33gtst brakes all round but I found I would never get enough heat into them on my commute to work so it was like they were wooden blocks. so I swapped out to some boggo spec ferrodo's off ebay.

It does entitle you indeed, I shake my head whenever I see them being recommended. As far as the disc/caliper question is concerned I have to disagree, A larger diameter disc has a greater circumference so as the pad clamps and the disc turns on the hub there is a larger circumference of metal for the pad to take hold of, same way as a longer lever gives more torque for removing a bolt. This not only helps with stopping the car but theoretically should also help with heat dissipation.

Have you worked out what the difference in torque is for some of the options?

    It's not very big.

However, it has a massive impact on surface area and heat transfer rates.
