    Buying a S14A

    Hi,
I am considering buying a third S14A but almost all of them I see advertised have now had some welding underneath.
Do you think it is a better option to go for a clean Japanese import? Are these cars structurally in a lot better condition?

    Thanks.

You'll need to structurally alter the depths of your pockets if you look at an import.

A UK car that's had welding is probably a better bet than one that has not as the one that has not, will need it soon and probably need more extensive welding.

A lot fo the time, its about catching the rot early.

There are plenty of rusty imports out there, I'd prefer to view a car myself before buying it

That's definitely a good point. I was thinking he was planning to buy a car that had recently been imported rather than one that was still in Japan.

Anyone who buys a 200 sight-unseen is either very brave or very stupid. IMO the latter.

Is it still possible to buy replacement panels like inner sills or some of the structrual parts underneath?

I can testify like a mother****er to this.

Best advice. Don't go looking for rust, be blissfully unaware and happy until your rear subframe rips off and your car folds in 2. I wish I'd done that. Seriously though, unless it's been dry garaged and properly looked after every S-Body in the UK will have bad rust somewhere. Or at least that's my beliefs. My import was undersealed and looked solid. As soon as I ripped out the interior and sound deadening I found rust. Bloody things rotting from the inside out.

No lesser a chance of rust on an import than a UK car these days.
