    This man speaks wise words.

Also, low miles unless really new also doesn't help - it just means it'll be coked from irregular short journeys.

Our civic 1.8 ivtec is averaging 44mpg.... Makes diesels a bit pointless when they are around 750 more to buy and only return 10mpg more with all the extra risk

Actually it's a good shout at 3k they are as practical as a volvo estate but with more flexible rear seating.

And the most uninspiring joy sucking pieces of metal ever invented.

I'm still suffering from bouts of depression 3 yrs after I got rid of mine every time I hear the word Civ....civvv.ci...civ... That word !

It took me 3 months to sell it too !

Isn't anybody other than me going to suggest something that is a nice drive and not too risky as a 3 month ownership proposition ?

Or did I miss where Ash specified it had to be dull as dishwater ?

A Focus would be just over £2400 for the 3 months.

I think he was hoping to get some of his £3K back at the end of the 3 months.

    What about a Bimmer 3 or 5 series... ?

You also may need to beware Direct Injection petrol engines. The ports don't get washed like they do in port injection.

Sounds like a fun car, wee hot hatch or something for 3 months of giggles.
Something easy to move on,something petrol, something with 4 wheels.

You could get a Clio 1x2. Goot to drive, and as you'll only have it 3 months, you'll likely still manage to get under a lot of breakdown services' '3 strikes and you're out' rule.
    Maybe.

Thats a breather issue. Yes an IDI engine would have had less deposits but its not the issue.

To be fair though that was a Focus

My 406 lasted over 3 years and cost me a new spring. It was on 170k when I bought it.

History is king in my experience

So I ended up getting a CLK. Paid a grand has done 109,000 miles and everything works... even the climate control. Couple of blemishes on the arches, but everywhere else rust free.

Drove it back to Essex from Stockport on Saturday. Cruise Control set to 70.... It was a really nice drive 4 hours

That took far longer than I expected

    And it was a HDi
All engine components were original too

Seems to be a common thing with VAG direct injection petrols though, my mates Scirocco was just as bad, it seems to be an accepted fact of ownership that at some point the valves need to come out and everything needs to be cleaned.

Its a shame you're all fixed up, Ash.

    I just spotted this...

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1988-PORSC...3D122170845245

I reckon that would have done you grand and sold for more than you paid.
