    Run around needed

I need a "Run around" for the next 3 months or so until new car is delivered.

Not wanting anything that is shit.... I found a 2002 Mercedes CLK in budget, owned by an old man, FSH. MOT until August 2017

Anyone know what issues to look out for? It's a 200K, done 109,000 miles

Pipe and slippers jammed under the pedals. Maybe a tartan blanket in the rear for a wee terrier.

I looked at a few a couple of years ago and the headlight bins and inner arches were bad in every one

If you are looking at a CLK for a runaround, you need to tell us your budget, fuel preference, number of seats, driven wheels etc. before we can make any sensible suggestions.

If you are looking for a RWD luxobarge you can buy now and sell in December without losing much money for around £2-3K...

    Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggg !

    Perhaps something like this ?

I would just buy a car that you know you can move on quickly for what it owes you like a 1.25 fiesta.

its all good and proper going and buying the batmobile but you will have a limited market when you come to sell it on.

there is a tidy silver 57 plate focus diesel on ebay with 36k for £1600. buy that use it for 3 months then put it back up for £2000 get chipped a few hundred and have 3 months free motoring.

Don't suppose you want a very cheap 2005 Skoda Fabia VRS instead?

Bound to be able to buy a brand new Citroen for that, or an Alfa thats one year old and has had its 99% depreciation take effect.

No its not, thats the X type. XJs are awesome and better than any 2000 era Merc.

They have a similar chassis to a Mondeo (similar - it was heavily modified...) and shared some engines but that is where the similarities end. My parents had a 2.2d for a while, the car was pretty fine but the engine was a turd. The seats were a bit firm compared to the 9-5 that they had before it too, but it handled much, much better and was a reasonably steer. A petrol V6 would be a tempting prospect if you don't care too much about how much it'll cost to fuel it and the pretty awful looks of the thing.

saloon cars are no good to me, i was actually looking at diesel ford focus's upto about 2 grand. then an X-type diesel estate with some kind of premium pack crept in under the radar. which got me wondering if it would be a better or worse option. MPG and a nice place to be are the deciding factors.

It's not an x type. Its an xj8. X type shared a floorpan but not much else with a mundano. The x308 looks better than the x350 but the 3.5 engine, electrics etc are much less incident prone. It doesn't look like a mundano in the flesh

EDIT: oops.didn't check the 2nd page. Its been said.

    Alfa GTV tintop then ?

You've got to go for something interesting if its a 3 month ownership proposition. It needs to be an experience not a deadzone.

I would never buy a 2nd hand diesel car again unless it had less than 50k on the clock and I wasnt taking it above 80k. Complete false economy IMO. A 2k Focus will cost you the same again within a year probably.
