    Recommended spark plugs and gaps

    Hi all

My s14 is due a service, got oil and filters sorted just plugs now.

Currently running these which have been in since i bought it.

In running fmic, 3" stainless straight through exhaust and cone filter.
Shall I just replace like for like?

    Thanks.

I have been using these for years as well. I use the standard gap that they come with.

If its not running standard boost then fit 7s.

Coppers wont last as long as iridiums but are about 25% the price, all depends how much you like changing plugs

    Its American so horse shit

There is some truth in it, copper plugs perform better but if you use colder iridiums I dont see them causing det issues. The chart probably isnt 100% accurate as Iridiums are actually an alloy and not pure iridium.

So on standard boost/engine should you just put grade 6 plugs in? Or do grade 7 plugs do the job but with future proofing for more mods?

If you've done any mods including air filter, fmic etc I'd fit grade 7's just to be safe tbh.

If you fit a 'too colder' plug it can get sooted up if not used to its full potential so on a standard set up I would just run the standard plug. Its not like plugs are expensive so just replace with colder ones when you need to.

Okay, well all I've done so far is just an air filter and catback exhaust so 6's should be fine still then ?

If it's a play car that gets used properly go for 7s as they wontt get sooted up
If it spends a lot of time in traffic and doesn't get nailed too much go for 6s as the traffic can bugger 7s

The amount of iridium/platinum in the centre electrode tip is tiny, it is there largely to increase service intervals by reducing gap growth.

I used 7grade iridium plugs for many years as a daily driver/commuter, and occasional trackdayer and they were always fine.
    Standardish S14.

    ^^^wot he said really

The last set to come out had done more than 30,000miles and looked fine (not burnt, not oily, not coked. Dusty grey brown as they should be)

I would be worried using a 6grade plug on a trackday if you're pedalling furiously.
I would be worried using a 8grade plug if you're pootling in slow traffic a lot.
