Usually just a gear, Earth the solenoid to make sure that's all it is.

Just earthed it and it went quiet as a mouse so that's means sprocket or solenoid? Cheers jj205mi16

What would happen if you did that power of low down power?

When it's earth'd, power will be same as stock up until 5700rpm, less power 5700rpm onwards.

If she is willing to spend the money to fix it then might as well fix it properly with new sprocket and solenoid. FRSports in the states sell them. Could try to PM Desa on here for a price.

If you want to replace the split intercooler I have a good S15r intercooler for sale, thicker than s14, never split and I sealed it to prevent the common problem of splitting stock intercooler.
Fixing this will improve her fuel economy.
    Have a look:

Unlikely to notice the loss up the top end anyway, i would just bypass it as the vvt sproket is very expensive and a fair amount of work to change.

I like the way she has brought it to you to diagnose and you just ask on here.

as has been said. if she hardly uses it then just earth it out.

Right well as it was here her son mot'd it and it failed on brake pipe and welding and she said she's not gonna have it done and scrap it so Iv taken on another project and toke it off her hands. I mite earth it and leave it till I figure out what I'm doing with it.

    Green_rs13
She left it here for a few days for mot and for her son and me to look at as I have a s13. But I only know ca18. As I don't know that much about the sr20 (even tho just brought a redtop for the s13) I thought I'd ask you lot instead of wasting time checking other things.
