    am i being thick?

(probably, but i have to ask!)

My little turbo project is meandering along nicely, but the wastegate on my gt1544 appears to close with vacuum. Now i'm assuming that as its off a vectra dinosaur burner, then it needs a 5psi wastegate from something else fitted to it? one that works the other way round. it stays shut till 5psi then opens....

Anyone know of a wastegate that will fit? like an oem one?

Also, how do you work out how much oil the turbo needs supplying to its chra?

    TIA.

That doesn't make sense, it should open when you reach the target boost level (5psi)

So you are saying the wastegate is normally open and has vacuum applied to close it? Thats an odd set up Do a google and you will find the turbo is probably used on another OEM and take the actuator off one of those.

Knackered diaphragm in the actuator maybe?

    I've got a spare T25 actuator.

Googled the bejesus out of it. Seems diesels use a vacuum pump to create their vacuum for brakes and stuff. This is off a cdti vectra so prolly the same set up.
    Johnny, what's the standard t25 pressure? I can't go over 5-6 psi or it'll melt pistons !!

Yer the vac pump is used for the brakes (although modern petrols are now using vac pumps too) It shouldnt be using it on the turbo though.

Looks like this. Suck on the tube on the actuator and it pulls the actuator gate shut.

Is it simply that you need to adjust the arm length so that the wastegate is closed in its atmospheric position and opens when you blow ?

Can you blow at the required pressure though? Anyway you can get a foot pump attached to it?

I just blew 2 psi on my tyre pressure gauge and my cheeks hurt.
Do you know it's broken or did you take it to pieces then decide to test it ?

It probably works fine you just can't make the pressure but I recon it's worth getting an adjustable actuator like the mamba ones as you can fit small springs in it
Don't diesels usually run higher pressure than petrols ?

Put a hose on it and use a foot/stirrup/bike pump with the taper adaptor to give it some proper pressure.

It is adjustable, it has a threaded rod and a locknut. You will need to extend the rod length to reduce the boost pressure.

The crank for the valve is designed to be pushed to open the valve. When fitted the actuator should be in tension holding the valve tightly shut and will require pressure (= set boost pressure) to extend the rod and push the crank to open the valve. If it worked on vacuum there would be a stub pipe for a vac hose where the vent hole is on 1/2 of the diaphragm chamber that has the rod protruding.

Hmm. I just punted 14psig down it. No movement at all. So i gave it 28 and nada.
Connected up a little venturi i use for vac and ran it at 14psi, so pulling a decent vacuum and back she comes. Deffo back to front.
