So who wants to talk about the 8 million ‘economically inactive’ people Priti Patel is saying can fill the low skills jobs when she prices out most of the European labour?

    It’s a bigger problem.

In East Anglia, a few years ago, the unemployed youth were asked if they would fruit / vegetable pick. Majority said no because it is “immigrant work.”

Farmers will not be able to get the Labour that they need.

Interesting that it is left to daughter of immigrants to come up with this clueless idea

I was actually digging more at the point that those people don’t equate to a workforce. The bulk is made up of students, live at home carers, long term sick and those retired before 65.

Read a great break down of it by the ONS on the BBC.

Long term sick are generally people who are too sick to work.

People who have retired can obviously afford to retire before the age of 65 so why would they want to do a low skilled job...

Priti Patel is MP for the constituency next door to me and she is clueless

It's impressive that in a country of just 67 million we have about 12% of the working population sat on their arse doing jack all. Just twiddling their thumbs waiting for work................

Many of those same areas were strong or very strong Brexit supporters.

I feel no great urgency to help these people when the workers are no longer available.
