    Best turbo for me?

    Hi guys

I am just purchasing an s14a with the following engine spec:

    Large core FMIC
    50mm Apex radiator
    Apexi air filter
    Spitfire coil packs
    86mm Mahle pistons
    Eagle rods
Std Acl race big ends and mains.
    Cosworth Metal head gasket.
    Brian crower 264 camshafts
    Rocker arm stoppers
    3" system turbo back
    Z32 Maf
    740cc injectors
    Nistune ecu
    Exedy twin plate clutch

It will be running stage 1 on the t28 when I pick it up.

My old rx7 was running 400hp (331whp) and I think id like to run a bit more, maybe 400whp...

I like the sound of the quick spool of the gt2871r but not sure it can achieve the peek power I'd like.

    What turbo would people suggest?

    Thanks in advance

What kind of response do you get with a gt3071r?? Don't want a lag monster either?

No? What else do you think would be required?

larger cams bigger injectors and better ecu then nistune and better gearbox to handle that power.and if you want to run that power buy methanol and water injection kit.

GTX 2867 is the smalest trubo thats gonna flow 400 WHP, but u have to put in some descent boost pressure(ca 1,8Bar or there about). But here you are really pushing the turbo.

I would recommend the GTX2967. Samme comperssor wheel and just a slightly increased turbine housing to reduce backpressure some.

if you are gonna use the Car at the track, you should even consider the GTX3071 to reduce backpressure even more and keep things cooler.

Both the GT 28 and the CT 29 will fit on the stock manifold. GTX30 wont.

The Brian crower 264 camshafts are way to big for my liking at this "low HP" aim. Why remove VTC and loose 500 RPM midrange, when its not needed?
For some reasson, ppl like big cams so they get a steeper boost ramp, while in practice, you only get a narrower power band and a mutch harder car to controll.

740`s will flow 400 WHP easily on standard pump fuel. For E85 its to small.

If you tuner cant map you car to 400 WHP on nistune, you really need a new tuner!

400 whp its its nearly 500hp and 264 its to big ? there is nothink said about removing vtc.and in uk there is no e85 thats why i mentioned water/methanol injection kit.and for ecu runing forged engine which cost big money to build i would like to have good ecu with safety features.

So what do you guys feel my set up is good for?

I will be running it as a fast road car... So I'm after a responsive 450+hp
    Standard would be good.

The gtx 2867 spools 100-200 rpm earlier than the gt2871, and flows some % more air. So its really a no brainer if you got the money for it.

Both the GTX 2967 and GTX3071 flows more air, so it all comes down to you.
The 2867 should put you in the 390-410 WHP range.

like wwc_gang metioned, you are gonna run out fuel if u get 1 of the bigger turbos and want more power.

    Not on an sr

For that kind of power you'll need a new intake manifold, fuelling setup, gearbox, heavy duty clutch, 1000cc plus injectors.

If you were to change nothing on that spec and buy a turbo to suit, I would get something along the lines of a GTX2863 or EFR 6258. They won't get you to 400whp, but they will be very responsive and give you a good fat torque curve.

Depends if you want good low speed torque response or loads of top end? You can't really have both on engines like the SR without doing something expensive.

This has crossed my mind, alot! I keep telling myself if I'm gentle'ish with it it will be ok.... What is the box realistically good for?

And the easiest cheapest but far more capable alternative is what? Rb25?
