Temp gauge sender query

Think my coolant temp sender is playing up, hoping it is rather than something worse anyway, where's the best place to get one - is it best to get a proper Nissan part or will an intermotor part do?

And where is it located, had a quick look round and a look on google, but I'm still none the wiser......

What's it doing? Mine has recently started bouncing around a bit randomly sometimes...?

It's occasionally going up to the red, thought it was due to spirited driving/low water the first time a few months back, drove carefully back home and the temp came down, then the other day it did it again but didn't drop like the last time.
Pulled off the road to give it chance to cool down just idling and it still didn't drop so turned the engine off, 5 minutes later I turned the ignition on and the temp gauge was showing normal which it wouldn't be after being in the red a few minutes earlier.
Nursed it home, stopping a couple of times as it had risen again.
Last night I used it and it's fine so I'm hoping it's the sender or gauge......
