I would love a TVR but I'm not mad! From what little I've read of the boxsters they seem fairly reliable, just not sure I like the feminine look of them, mind you I could get past that if they drive well.

You could have a VW Golf as suggested above. But beware the shop window reflection. It will make you sad.

That would then give me a good reason to replace the VW!

I would prob rather walk lol.

If the OP is financing this, as i thought it was mentioned, how much are the payments per month - as he might be able to secure a decent lease or pcp deal on a new car thats not some ancient shitter that might break down the first time you look at it.

Is the Mini Cooper S actually any good? I have been thinking aboit them recently. Loads about with fairly low miles for 5k.I know fwd isn't favoured but I'm with Mark.

Didn't they also do an extra hot one?

Supposedly very good, but hard ride.
I was seriously considerng one, but the high prices compared to competitors (i.e. Clio Sport and the like) put me off a bit, as well as a few large reliability issues (things like PS pump, Superchargers) and rust issues which could all throw quite large bills at you. Plus the boot is too small even for my relatively non practical needs.
There were several hot ones - the Works ones had a few more bits and a smidge more power, then there was the GP, but they cost a big chunk more.

Mini is a bit like a ****ed tardis, its bigger on the outside than inside.

Would take a clio over a cooper S most of the time.

It appears you've never owned a Clio.

Interesting. The boot would be an issue for me. A friends gf has just got a convertible. I shall don a pink shirt and go for a drive.

    Hear-hear.

I owned a new Clio for 3 years and 35K miles and by the end it was a shitter.
By contrast I had a new s14a for 3.5 years and 35K miles and it was still mint. Absolutely like new.

Build quality on Clios is shocking.

There is no way in hell I'd buy a Clio or Mini, they are basically the opposite of what I want. I'm not saying that they are bad but it is simply a matter of taste. The 350z is still the front runner for me. Are there any owners or previous owners people know of on here? I'm not sure if a 100k miler is a good investment or not?

You can drive a hard bargain on a Z that is the lower spec - if you're not arsed about cruise control, Bose, leather etc. I've got one on 105k. It's still very, eh, toight...

Fiend of mine has a Cooper S thees days and it's throwing up problems and generally proving to be a bit uninspiring.

MattyGee was looking at 350s and test drove a few. Then he had some sort of mental episode and bought a convertible 1 series instead, so I'd ignore his opinions if he does chime in

Good to know Kieran. I'm not fussed about any of that stuff tbh, besides the heated seats. Oh to have heated seats.
Can I ask what you ended up paying for yours?

£5950 for an '06 rev-up version on 90 odd k, 18 months ago. Little bit high price but it had brand new discs, pads and Pilot Super Sports. About a grands worth of stuff I figured.

Some say the un-heated seats weigh less and sit you lower down. Which helps, as I'm on the limit with a helmet as a 6-footer.

It guzzles petrol and the tax is £500+ on '06 plates onwards. Anything else you need to know ask away. Docwra had one for a long time so would know plenty too.
