    14a welding issue

Having the 14 welded up at the moment but unfortunately have hit a problem. The welder mentioned a v shape bracket which is completely corroded and he doesn't know where everything fits into place. The majority of the rust is around the rear of the sills and subframe. Going to see him tomorrow to have a look but he said if I can get any pictures or diagrams it would help him massively! If any of you have anything of the sort or could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I have a spare at home if you need some measurements but your better off getting a bracket off a scrapper and then using it to position the mounting point

Oh and dont forget the captive nut in the bit your welder is trying to build back up is an M10 x 1.25 which isnt a standard M10 thread.

Just get him to use a stock M10 x 1.5 bolt to make your life easier

I am currently getting this done myself by a welder. I had one side there and the other not. Wish I'd had it done in time to help with this post. I'll not have her back till next weekend or later

An query with the diagram above! It says that J & K are bolts, surely that's the subframe attachment point quick is a nut? Only questioning this because I will be looking new nuts when I drop and rebuild rear. Sorry if am being stupid.

The V bracket is still in place it's just no longer attached to the sill. Just wondering where it actually fixes too. Does it play a big structural part?

If the subframe and floor mounts are still intact the sill one can only fit in one place. The bracket supports the post that the subframe locates on to stop it flexing.

It's a long shot but if anyone has a photo of one in good condition so the bloke doing the welding has some idea of how he's going to fabricate a piece up it would be much appreciated

All it is is a boxd off section made from 1.2mm steel with a 2-3mm steel plate that holds a m10 or m12 captive nut for the boomarang plate.

hope your welder friend has some experience as it will be rotten through and mot style welding will last 5 minster

Like ghost sed..... Make sure it's done right Andy.... I'm a fabricator myself and did a quick mot job on my 95 s14 and needed doing again the following year. When I did mine I set up my welder with stainless wire etc and went back as far I needed to get good steel exposed and welded stainless steel in to prevent it happening again then wax oil the whole area and surroundings while re building it up.

Just don't mess up like I did and have it go agin lol
