    Selling a car to Germany

    Hi guys,

I've sold the 180sx, totally heartbreaking but it's time for a house.

I was wondering what you all think is a better idea -

Get the balance in GBP from the buyer or in EUR and exchange it myself when the rate is good, but then I'm hit with commission??

    - Ross.

Just take it in GBP. The exchange rate is bad at the moment going from euro to GBP. Not worth the hassle of you taking euro and waiting until the rate improves.

Well the car is going tomorrow and the buyer has suggested sending the money via paypal gift. I'm a little reluctant.

Bank transfer would be better, I think? Can someone please give me some advice?

Bank transfer is the best - it avoids any possible issues later.

With Paypal there's always that nagging worry, even though as a gift it's meant to remove all the protection - you can never quite be sure.

That's exactly what I'm thinking mate. Plus I reckon PayPal offer shitty conversion rates and take fee's.

Yes, their conversion rate will be poor - not sure on the fees as a gift, but if it were me I'd ask for a transfer. That's what I did when I sold my 309 to Gibraltar, and it worked fine, then a truck came and took the car away

I'd be extremely uncomfortable with the idea of selling a car to a foreigner over paypal in a foreign currency without the car having been viewed.

What have you done to check out the buyer ?

I'd be wanting £50 notes on collection and I'd be checking them.

Sold my S14a to someone from France, he just rocked up, had a look round and handed over 5k in 50s. Didnt even haggle Much less hassle than selling to people in this country who walk round it 50 times, um, ah and then try to knock 40% off

I think it'll have to be via bank transfer, I'll tell him I'm not comfortable with PayPal! Ahaha I have him on Facebook?

Yeah exactly Mark. To be honest I've been pretty lucky and not had any timewasters. Probably because I've priced it so high

Here she is all cleaned up for him to drive away tomorrow - gutted doesn't cut it.

Whereever possible, take it in GBP. Sold an Evo to Germany and an S2000 to France. On the latter, I cost myself a few bob by totally overestimating the Euro/GB exchange rate.

Lol ****ing paypal, as if!! They're a total bunch of robbing shites.
    Cash or bank transfer.

If you're feeling worried then do the sale at the bank, have him make the deposit into your account at your local branch then hand him the keys outside.

I'd be closing that bank account and credit card linked to paypal asap

And getting the house fenced and gated ready for paypal games
