Is starter actually spinning the motor?

Dunno if you could have snapped the ring gear but that would result in zilch.

Well it seems that for once doing **** all has paid off. They seem to have compressed themselves after a few days. Got compression now on all cylinders! Cheers for your thoughts guys.

How much compression mate? Maybe the tester wasn't sealing properly!

It was definitely in correctly, it must have been the hydraulic lifters took some time to settle into position.

The results are all over the place at the moment, but I did it cold and without holding the throttle body open and maybe some of the lifters hadn't quite settled in. Results were 9,7.5,8,9 bar. A bit low but I hope to get better results if I can ever get it to run properly.
