Update time. I shot some of this stuff in every hole I could find

Then I put some bungs in those holes above the boomerang mounts ( where the water most likely got in and rotted them out in the first place!

Then it was time to clean and refit the interior. There were a few plastic fasteners that were broken on the rear cards. so replaced them all.
    Back seat in

Then hoovered out the front and cleaned out all the dust

Then decided to clean the front seats before putting them back in.

    Before

    After

Oh and I soaked the boomerangs in vinegar

    After a day

Today I plan to take them out, give them a good clean and then prime with electrox.

Also plan to get the side skirts back on.

Seats look a lot cleaner. Its so satisfying protecting bits you cant get to on the car isn't it. How well does vinegar work?

Not that great to be honest. It's good on the light rust. But not so great on the heavier stuff

That's after a good going over with this

They are back in the tank now for a further few hours. In two minds to just cover them in deox gel.

Ok so I covered them in deox gel, left them for an hour and not a lot happened. So then I put them back in the vinegar tank and then gave them a further rub down. Still weren't happy with the outcome so ditched the old vinegar and refilled with new vinegar and salt!

    Other things I did today:

Put leather conditioner on the seats:

Then I got the side skirts out and gave them a good clean to get all the dirt out from inside

    Then washed again and dried

Then fitted them. I was worried that the new holes i drilled in the new outer sill may not line up.. but fit like a glove

    And ahem.. what welding..

Skirts are only held on by the pop clips for the minute. I want to replace all the hex screws with brand new ones as the old ones look like this

Any ideas where I can get them?? Also need the thread clip thingy

Salt and vinegar?? They're not chips. Surely the salt won't help remove rust??

Hahahaha..no chips just fish. Apparently the salt increases the acidity in the vinegar. Think about that next time you have your Friday special

No idea if these are the right size? Right sort of thing though. Stainless would be nicer though.

Looking good dude, those clip thingies you refer to are spire clips. They are a PITA when they break away without undoing, leaving you with a spinning bolt.

    Definitely get stainless if possible.

Be careful not to block drainage holes with gromets or too much wax. Water doesn't really get in from underneath, more from above. If you block all drainage holes all these areas will just fill up with water and rot from the inside out again. Once the wax goes fairly solid use some welding wire or a small screw driver to unblock the holes again.

Thanks Dan. I forgot the name lol! And you are dead right. Or they don't grip and rotate with the bolt which is annoying too! As the bolt rots in the thread!

The end cap ones have one side longer than the other. I am looking for some now on ebay

Hey Dez, yeah I know the drain holes you are talking about. I actually need to make sure they are 100% clear. The ones I blocked up are right up the top. Can't see any purpose other than to allow wax in and then water for years after. I remember Pete (Petrol) mentioning them in his s14a rebuild.

Good thread mate. Wish I saw this before I did mine. I had spice weazle make me some sills but as soon as well cut the old ones off we didn't know where to stop. Pretty much had a whole new floor. That's what you get when you buy a car wearing rose tinted glasses.

Thanks Bevan, Spice weasle made mine too. Luckily mine wasn't as bad as some. Mainly due to being garaged and not being used in the winter too much. Will be wax oiling regularly now. Well at least checking every year!
