17s will give a nicer ride, and be lighter with more tyre wall, so better for grip as well.

18s look better and fill the arches better.

Which widths and offsets you need will depend on your arches, suspension and brakes

I wonder what is the max widths and offsets I can use on a car with normal arches and brakes but coilover? Thanks

This was mine with 18x9 ET25 all round a few years back, if that gives you some idea? 225/40 front and 235/40 rear.

I've had both and, as mentioned above, they both have their plus points. R33 wheels (what I currently have) are a good straight on fit with no modding however they need 5mm spacer on the fronts if you have coilovers.

When I had 18s fitted I *think* the rears were 10j (could have been 9.5j) but I can't remember the offset, et25 rings a bell though. I ran 265/40 and the fitment was pretty much spot on.

265/40 would be MASSIVE on a S15, and pretty huge on a S14 - you sure it wasn't 265/35 rear, and something like 235/40 front?
