EGT sensor off of the turbo elbow? S13

Is it possible to take an Exhaust Gas Temperature measurement off of the turbo elbow to save drilling the manifold?
Any risks? what temperature range would you expect to see (lower than in the manifold I presume). Thanks Darren

for sure, you can place EGT probe directly after turbine outlet at the elbow. I have it here for years. You will get different-lower readings compared to manifold. Its hard to say how much lower, as this depend on several factors. But as soon as turbo is fully heated, you can use EGT after turbine for tuning purposes to check influence of tuning to the EGT. But you cannot look for any particulars numbers, just for trends/changes. Usually, I would await max. temps at area of 700-750deg after turbine...

Yea it's usually a couple hundred degrees cooler after the turbo so you have to be careful reading too much into the numbers, without having another probe in the manifold it's also harder to tell the difference between the two.
