Suggest a sporty nice looking car for my sister... Thinking of rev5 mr2

Brains of SXOC come to my rescue!

My sis is. Considering getting shot of her woefully unreliable 04 Ibiza 1.4 3dr and currently has her heart set on a 1996 rev5 T bar Gt for a strong 3.5k..

I'm not so sure something of that age is such a suitable buy for her - she's happy to deal with routine maintenance. But I think rot may be a big issue in future. Particularly as its going to be used summer and winter. Also she does not have a previous good history of car care - but apparently no more.

She's after a daily driver for an approx 20mile each way commute across the new Forest.

Practically isn't that important but I think luggage capacity of some sort is useful. MPG in the 30s would be best.

Remember guys that we are dealing with female 'logic' and I think looks play a fairly big part in choice .. But I might be underestimating her!

Budget at a guess 3 to 5k tax 220 tops. Preference for jap but would consider other.

    So far suggested :

Newer shape Mr2 - thinks its gay
    Gen7 celica - ugly
    Mx5 - also gay

Hit me with what you've got!

Not jap but I'd say an Audi TT fits the bill

How much driving experience has she got?

I'm not sure an MR2 is that forgiving, if she's got a particularly lead right foot

S2K is far better than MR2, see also MX5. Im really not a fan of the Mk2 TBH

3rd gen MR2 would be a way better choice, but then there are far better options at this price point.

Why is she spending £3.5k on a Mk2? It must be a damn nice one to be that expensive. I'd advise shopping around for a better deal. It sounds like she has already made up her mind though..
If she is buying on looks alone then there is nothing quite as pretty IMO, until you get to expensive Italian exotica.

    Hi chaps.

Audi TT is looking very possible now. She likes the way they look.
I feel they fit her needs well and are more forgiving, less rust and safer if in a crash.

    I've tried now

Gen 3 Hyundai coupe - was told its like a fake Prada handbag(!)
(I pointed out an mr2 is like a fake f355)

    BMW Z4 2.0 - no reply
Porsche boxter - doesn't like the looks
    S2000 - too much like mx5 - also handling tricky I agree
Breadvan type R - surprisingly also on shortlist!
Mx5 with a hardtop - also may consider (?but not convertible?)

She's 27 with plenty of driving experience but not in anything genuinely quick, and a few goes in s14 + other stuff.

Outright pace second to looks here. . but We're not talking about a girl who likes Beatles and BMW minis style here.

Hate to say it, but it sounds like she will just buy what she likes the look of and not actually consider the boring stuff like performance, enjoyment, value etc. ............. which makes this pretty pointless. The MX5, Boxster, Mk3 MR2, S2K and even the Scoupe are all pretty damn good cars, the TT and Mk2 MR2, not so much. 350Z is a good shout, what about that?
