    t28r rebuild options...?

picked up a t28r the other night with play i was told it didnt smoke and boosts well and for the price i cant complain
but upon removing the front housing there is oil everywhere but was told this is from the breathers on ca and fmic thus why he was breaking the engine . and looking closer no reason to suspect overwise every else looks good. so really just want to sort the shaft play out

Ive emailed a few company's for quotes but wondering if there's any rebuild kits available for the t28r as ive rebuilt a few t25s with no problems in the past.

I believe you will need to buy a new core.. Almost as expensive as a new turbo... Don't think they can be rebuilt..

Ball bearing turbos require a new core if I'm not wrong they can't be rebuilt!! I tried many company's all over UK to get mine rebuilt they all came back saying needs new core

As said ball bearing turbos can't be rebuilt a new core has to be purchased. A blown ball bearing unit is only good for the housings rest is pretty much scrap

according to Bernie Blowers (on Facebook) who apparently has been building them for years, they can be rebuilt

He is the only company that is then as everyone else quotes for replacement cores. Also garret don't sell replacement parts so he is either producing his own or buying the Chinese stuff off ebay

the rebuild kit consists of a various parts, O rings etc, the main part is the bearing cage, he doesn't buy them he makes them himself:

Yeah, you can't really buy decent quality stuff. So like I said he must be making his own credit to him it's a part of the market that isn't very well served

I've seen the BB rebuild kits pop up from time to time, it's a fairly new thing tho.

but like Hugh says, get it off to Bernie, the man is a wizard by all accounts.

the bit you can't get is the bearings - turbodynamics definitely offered a seal replacement option assuming the bearings/wheels were OK.
    white '94 s13 200sx scrapped - mapped to 1.45bar. OS giken box, garrett GT2876R, 950cc injectors, ORC twin plate, nistune. 349bhp/325lbft @ 1.3bar CA18DET
white '96 s13 180sx - type g with more kouki bits - RB25DET, GTR steel twin turbo conversion, RB26 crank & rods. 2.6L VVT twin turbo, SR20 OSG box, OSG STR twin plate clutch, Z32 ECU w/ nistune.

current status: 180 a bit broken but to be repaired.

Try asking Spool motorsports on Facebook if he will do it.

Post here once you have had your answer so everybody doesn't harass him.
