    Weber carb

    I'm working on a capri 2 ltr pinto. I was wondering, when you look inside the carb with the air filter off are you supposed to see fuel coming out the 2 jets when it's cranking? Or is there other jets that you can't see somewhere?

    It should have a 32/36 dgav (A for automatic choke) weber carb and the two jets you can see at the top of the chokes
    under the square choke flaps are the accelerator pump jets
    they should if all is good only pump or give a squirt of neat fuel when the throttle is opened,and only when the throttle is being opened
    if they are leaking fuel just from the vacume of cranking then I suspect the diaphragm inside the accelerator pump housing
    has failed/split perrished,found living inside the square housing/4 screws and lever extends to the throttle under the float bowl
    If the fuel is coming from lower down the chokes via the emulsion tubes,it should only be drawing through the smaller 32mm choke (idle to half throttle)
    but if during cranking you are opening the throttle past half way you would get unburnt fuel mist visible from both chokes
    If its stone cold and the throttle is not touched,You shouldn't be able to see fuel being drawn in from the top accelerator jets
    to set the auto choke you are supposed to slowly give it full throttle and release,then fire it up and it should sit on a fast idle
    but it rarely works tbh or it 'knocks off' the first time you touch the throttle and then you have super low idle speed/engine cuts out
    its beeen a lonnng time since I 've played with weber carbs and pinto's (or fire engine water pump) but I think thats correct

    Thanks, in the end we worked out that a guy I work with knocked a switch under the dash with his knee with cut power to ignition.

    Always good to know about these carbs though. No doubt I'll have to work on another in the future.

    Will do, the only old Ford I've had was a mk1 Fiesta so that's all I know about. Would like an Escort one day though.

    I lost count the number of cars I went through back in the day,buying and selling (to get another ford)
    had most of the interesting fords from 1960's through to late 90's
    my collection got to twelve cars at one point,all bought when they were cheap as chips of course
    worth a fortune now but I didn't for see that stupidly at the time

    oh yes when you see the prices of them now its crazy
    back in the day every time a new model came out the old models couldn't be given away
    like the Sierra came out,Cortina's were worth fcuk all because every wide boy wanted the swoopy dashboard
