    Taxing an historic vehicle

Has anyone tried taxing an historic vehicle online? My landrover tax is due today and is meant to be tax exempt as per the new 40 year rolling historic vehicle tax scheme as of today! it was first registered on 01/08/74 so falls within the time frame needed however when I go to tax it online it's still showing the full cost duty?1?

Has anyone done this before and do you have to apply for the exemption on line?

According to this the date is the 1/1/74 but the site might be out of date...

Edit - the last time the page was updated was 27 Jan 2015

I think you might have to pay for another year, Chris.

The latest date of manufacture only changes once a year as far as I am aware and it does that every Jan 1st. Its not a daily rolling 40 year date.

According to their own information the HMVT is meant to update every April 1st. All the information I can see on the page itself is still stating 1st April 2014 and that it's a rolling scale. My understanding is that the cut off build date for qualification as of today should be 1st of january 1975!

Last april for cars to qualify they needed to be registered before January 1st 1974!

Ah. OK. My bad. It changes on the 1st April not 1st Jan. Sorry.

I've been to the post office to post a parcel and asked while I was there. Apparently I need to re register it as an historical vehicle, nothing like making life easy

After some research on the Morris Marina OC I've just been to another post office with my v5 after following this info

Step 2 – Take the V5C and your MOT down to the Post Office and they will take the V5C and

issue you with a Tax Disk free of charge.

Step 3 – 5-10 days later you will get a new V5C with the taxation class changed from Private

I left with 12 months tax after paying this

    This makes me happy

Yeah it sucks, our Scimitar is about a Jan/Feb '75, so just missed out! Though the way work is going we're unlikely to get the chance to use it this year anyway!

It does suck to be right on the cusp of being tax exempt but getting away with not paying the government £240 a year is a fantastic feeling and worth the wait
