200SX S13 WITH BMW 2.5 TURBO (not sure why i even started)

    Hello.

recently i started doing my new drift car. really not sure why.. but here it goes

by no means this is a project that is well funded or done with top quality and branded parts.
    But bear with me.

    this started as side project.
was going to do BMW kumho championship this year. But due to medical shit i cannot do it.
While doing the bmw i was stuck with an s13 with shitty ca18 and a M50B25 engine from e36 that i replaced with m52b28.

its still ongoing project but started like that.

Once i managed to fit the bmw engine and connected it so it worked.
Then decided i will try turbocharging it (wasnt the best idea)

After speaking with few friends in Poland about it actually being a popular thing to do i went for it.
    received few bits

    and started work..

decided that i need to underseal and fix all the rust aswell as freshen up the engine.

not the safest way but did the job.

    i do hate undersealing

I always knew that the fitment is going to be an issue.
Engine is actually quite big for a nissan and at angle.
Manifold was gonna be a problem. Even more so when i decided to do top mount.
It was either buy one off the shell (ebay) or get one made.
For now i cannot afford good work of people of this forum for the manifold work so for now i decided to go for manifold from the guy i bought all the parts from.
manifold seems to be actually well made.. good quality.. as for performance i cannot yet say.

But when finally fitted there was an obvious issue.and a big one

    Yep.. it was well high.

The manifold was done for e36 so wouldnt fit really. But its actually not that bad. well. Had to lower the engine a bit...
and might slightly modifiy the manifold to make it even more lower..
but for now.. i managed to make it like that.

still shit more to do but its getting there..

once the engine will start being more and more assembled as it should it will be fine..

    Intake will be a problem.

Decided to make a thread now hoping for some inspiration and maybe hints as its a first ever bm turbo build for me.

will update as it will move forward.

oh yeah.. got a stupid plan to finish it within three weeks
    Yep. Stupid

i did some painting so it looks a little but better (questionable colour but i like it)

Once it dried i started putting electric loom in and other bits

finally after some time engine went in with new mounts to put the engine further down.

Noticed that with exhaust and manifold , brake servo and clutch master will have to be moved or deleted so decided to fit a pedal box.

and then started doing an exhaust
Was really tempted to just do it the easy way

but decided to do it as it should be and put it at the back

    for now that is it..
but with long weekend coming now it should leap forward a lot.. hopefully even start and drive.

hope you like it so far

There's enough space on that intake side for a whopping great big supercharger...!

The man makes a good point! It does seem you have packaging issues! Interesting project though. I take it the engine has lower compression to cope with forced induction?

Yes. Compression was dropped with thicker headgasket.
once the intake manifold is where it should be there is not much space there.

    But we should see

Charger installations are quite compact on these engines, within the confines of the lower part of the engine anyway.

    Example:

    Belt routing is fun

Anyway, you've got something working for the turbo now which will be more efficient anyway without spending a lot of money on something like an Eaton TVS supercharger.

I had a pipe dream a while back to shoe horn the above into an S13. Even have the charger (good for ~450hp and front fed with a throttle and bypass not rear fed!) sat in the garage but maybe another time.

Presumably you're using the 5 speed box? What final drive ratio are you going to run?

well. didnt think about supercharger really.

as for ratio. im using 5 speed ZF gearbox that was used in 328i and also M3.
final ratio is 2.93 if i remember..
once it drive i will have to play around with it .
Dont think S13 diff will last long. so soon will be changing to skyline as i read somewhere that its a good upgrade.

tbh didnt think of final gears and ratios at all.
cant get my head around it either.. need to read up a bit more.

If you use S13 diff your gearing will be far too short! 2.9 from a 328 when turbo'd probably isn't so bad but I think the shortest one you might be able to get hold of that will keep things sensible would be something like a 3.23 from the M3 Evo, or a 3.15 from an earlier car. Not sure what else either ratio was in, I have a feeling that the 3.23 might also have been in the 3.0l Z4?

You'll have to modify the subframe to fit it though...

I don't think there are any R200 diffs that come in anything shorter than 3.69 as in the S14. I know 350Zs use something similar to an R200 but even those only go down to 3.5 and the casing isn't the same.

well... easter weekend is gone and there is progress to show.
most of the progress was in the exhaust department as it was quite a bit of a mission to actually rout it around things..
but its there. just need to weld it now.

i managed to fit the pedal box , seat , steering wheel , do the brake lines , hydro, changed the allignment arms fit front coilovers , ic piping some of the electrics , and started fuel system.

    pedal box

interior done up a bit more

finally the front end looks like it should a bit more

im still waiting for swirl pot to arrive but started thinking where goes what

intake is still unknown . Still unsure what to do with it

but that is it so far.
few more bits to do. and to put together ... oil and coolant and it should start next weekend hopefully.
