    writing fractions in micrsoft word

im not much of a computer person but I need to write some maths out in word. I want to be able to write proper fractions, by that I mean having the numerator over the top of the denominator separated by a horizontal line and not have to write them like 1/2 1/100 etc... I know I can use the X? button to write small numbers like you would if you were writing metres cubed but that still looks rubbish.

I tried to google it but have had no luck. I figured an office bod lurking on here might know the solution.

sorry about the total random thread!!!

What version are you using? 2010 (or was it 07?) onwards has an equation editor function which does fractions. It's in the insert menu.

I have 2010 if I go 'insert' then across to symbols I can get fractions off there but it only has a few set fractions that you can choose from and I want to write odd ball ones like 27/48

You have to go into insert, equation and than at the bottom You get a "create new equation". From there You can build quite decent ones.

Also for info if you press and hold alt then type 0176 or 0178 or 0179. You get ° ² ³.

As above, in Word '10 on the Insert Tab, there's Equation next to symbol. For a half etc, write 1 / 2 and then on the drop down click Professional.

Did you get it sorted. The Equation editor is pretty nifty.

turns out I only have Microsoft word-starter so this magical equation editor is not featured.
