I can't tell you how cool that is! I even read this thread in January and thought "cool car, I'll follow this one"!
You just missed out with Unit3sixty the new skatepark in Stourbridge.
Mine is a 2000 Kouki Yep, but I'm a huge fan of the Zenki too. More like a baby skyline!

Keep up the good work bud, I'll subscribe to the thread.

Looks really nice, love the fact that you dont need to run a front plate, makes a massive difference imo

BIG BIG FAN haha and it's blue as well! awesome!!
Ahaha, thank you nessie! I've pretty much sank every penny and all of my time for the last few months into getting it onto the road. Its wierd how by our english standards this car is 'stock' pretty much, but over here it's a case of everything being swapped out. Sr20, brakes, suspension etc, all new. Sigh...I wonder what it would've looked like if I had started with a UKDM car. Least we don't get rust here I 'spose.

@Tom - Ahah, yeah I saw that a new park had opened up, ive got a bunch of BMXer friends over here, but i'm not sure I want to start sinking more money into toys at the moment lol!

@SX - Thanks man! Yeah, we don't need plates on the front, and they run super small rear plates that fit within the jdm/usdm rear recess. We don't have speed cameras here which is awesome and most of the reason why we don't have to run a front plate. I did get pulled the other day by a cop and he had his gun drawn..which made me wish that we had Cameras here instead! Cameras can't kill you..

So, another week! I did a bunch of little bits and pieces this week,

    - replaced some dodgy wiring in the interior fusepanel with 'add-a-fuse' connectors.
    - I fixed a problem with the coolant and bled the system to stop it from gurgling.
    - My colleague bought a UKDM cluster (0-160mph!) so he sold me his kouki cluster for $60 (bargain!), I picked up some red LED's to fit with it.
    - I have developed a blow in the dummy cat, and a wierd rattling flutter from the engine. I'm really hoping that's all related so ive got a new ISIS test pipe on the way, and a friend that's going to help me weld some new hangars onto the zorst next weekend.
    - I ordered a new blow-by-air pipe, so I can replace the horrible ghetto rigged one that the previous owner 'made'
    - My friend sold me a pair of upper and lower rad hoses to replace my worn out, kinked upper hose.
    - I had my arches rolled again
    - Created a small metal guard to protect the loom until I get time to properly relocate it. (it's not being rubbed atm so maybe we're okay...?)

    Anyway, pictures.

We had a rolling party! $100 to do a full roll on the rears and some work on the front (I had already done a decent job, but these are now PINCHED..best roll ive ever seen)

People here look and sound like hillbillies lol:

We went and washed our cars and got ready for a meet

It was a great meet, hundreds of cars, lots of cool people too!

If any of you fancy seeing what kinda thing we have at meets here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...3065492&type=1
there is always a mix of 1000hp cars, kids driving their parents $100k cars, horrible ricers, and then really inspirational builds inbetween everything.

Fingers crossed I get everything sorted this week!

    Evening all,

The car was (until this weekend) running so well, its just been great to enjoy driving the car each day. I've done a tonne of small bits and bobs on the car, but nothing really noteworthy other than a detail and jdm'ifying the tail lights.

Full credit goes to the Marcus JP Moore from the SXOC facebook for the original idea. I don't suppose he'll bring his car stateside so fingers crossed he wont mind.

The weather is starting to get really really hot here, and that caused the car to run super rich on the weekend. I think i've isolated the issue to a fault coolant temp sensor, so i've ordered one of those, aswell as a colder thermostat to hopefully bring the engine temps down. During my investigation into what year my SR is from, I dismantled the ECU to try and get the code from that. Turns out that i've been running a Mine's ECU..maybe the car is running closer to 270 like I was told by the previous owner. It was a nice surprise to find it anyway.

Also installed an engine damper because racecar.

@nessie - thank you! I have a weird style that some people either love or hate, I am super changeable so things never stay on the car for too long.

Sorry for the lack of replies and updates, I've done tonnes on the car recently!

    Where the car is now:

    Engine-
So, everything has been running great, but now I've got the brakes and suspension etc where I want it, I'm starting to want some more power. I'm currently running close to stock power with a few bolt ons and now I've decided I want to go the GT2871r route if possible, so I'm starting to gather parts:

Nismo 555cc injectors (which turned out to be JECS 650cc injectors) that I sent to be cleaned and flow tested at Deatschwerks. I can't recommend them enough, fantastic service.

    Tomei Expreme Manifold

    HKS wastegate actuator

    Z32 MAF

    Oil Filter Relocation Kit:

Oil Temp and Oil Pressure guages:

I also picked up a AEM TruBoost electronic boost controller.

    Left to buy:
    Tomei Turbo Elbow
Tomei adjustable fuel pressure regulator, guage and piping
    GT2871r .64
    RS-Enthalpy ECU.

Fingers crossed as I pick each part up I'll get closer to getting everything built towards the end of July and be running at around 15psi. I'm hoping to hit close to 325-350 whp on 93 pump gas.

@Ghost - Ahahaha, well I have a pretty decently sized garage that I used, but those shots were taken at a friend's place, hes got a garage quite close to that, he does custom fabrication as a hobby and was making up a bracket for me to fit my HKS wastegate onto my newly acquired GT2871R.

Unfortunately..the cutting wheel exploded and he dropped it on his foot, which meant that he had to go to hospital pretty sharpish and my bracket didnt get finished..fingers crossed he'll have it done today.

I'm loving it over here! Life is pretty good, the bar is very low in terms of S14's so my car is probably one of the cleaner ones on this coast, and luckily ive fallen in with a group of really knowledgeable guys that can teach me the stuff I don't know. The weather is gorgeous (30+ every day) and the roads are smooth, not sure I can ask for much more!

@Auz - I agree, that's on my list, will help keep the car cooler inside without AC too!

So, short update. I got all the bits needed for my motor upgrade, I'm hoping to be running around 350whp by the time I'm finished this weekend.

    I fitted my tomei FPR

And removed the Turbo last night:

Big things this weekend I hope

Hey guys, long time without any updates. It's been a pretty eventful couple of months. Some ups and some big downs unfortunately.

So, I ended up getting the turbo into the car, with all of the assorted relevant bits. It all went to plan and I was super happy with the results. No real roadblocks stopped us getting it all into the car, along with the cams etc.

So I started the car up and went for a drive, and what do you know? The turbo isn't spooling. Not one bit, so I went through everything over the course of a week and unfortunately I found that the GT2871R that I had bought for a pretty penny had instantly seized up on my first start. I had bought it second-hand BNIB, so I had no comeback on it. I was literally heart broken, all that time and money for nothing.

Anyway, after I recomposed myself we took the GT2871R out of the car and put the T28 back into the car. Even running 14psi on the T28, I made what felt like 300hp and the car was completely transformed. It wasnt a gt2871r but It certainly packed a real punch.

So, I enjoyed the car for a couple of weeks, boosting around and generally (truthfully) disrespecting the amount of power I now had under my right foot. Predictably this caught up with me REAL quick, and I ended up in a ditch. Yep.

This was the corner I lost it on, truthfully I wasn't drifting or speeding, I just went into the corner alittle hot and the backend stepped out, I let the wheel slip through my fingers and tried to feather the throttle enough to keep it spinning and countersteered. Unfortunately due to the dry road, it caught traction and threw me straight on into the curb.

    The damage was:
all 4 wheels were bent but the tires were salvageable.
    1 horrifically bent tie rod.
1 bent rear upper control arm
    1 torn up splitter/lip
    1 really bruised ego.

My ride height saved me, I didnt make contact with the curb in any way other than the wheels, so the body, frame and motor came away unscathed.

After crying alittle over that, I once again recomposed myself and went to work fixing my mess. My friends were really good to me, it's kinda hard being in a foreign country when everything falls apart, and luckily my 240 buddies here in the US were there to help assess the damage, sit with me whilst I waited to be towed and they truthfully gave me a tonne of moral support.

Anyway, We got it home and went to work taking it apart. The plan at that point was to rebuilt bigger and better. Up until that point I had been having trouble getting the car into bigger car shows simply because I was running Rotas which have a terrible name over here. I decided I wanted genuine wheels and to rebuild the suspension to be as good as it can possibly be.

    Tearing down the subframe:

    The coilovers made it through:

    The bent RUCA:

and the bent tie rod with the Tein replacement (with megan boot and tein spacer)

So yeah, after all was said and done I saw this whole mistake a big opportunity to make some serious improvements to the car.

    Cleaning the subframe

    Repainted (with Stance Subframe risers)

I'm originally from Birmingham (uk) so I really wanted to represent the UK alittle and having always been a huge fan of Driftworks, I decided to put in a big order for a set of front and rear LCA's, and a full arm kit. It was pretty pricey, but I like to do things right the first time. Amazingly the package from DW came NEXT DAY from the UK.

Genuinely, I am still blown away with the speed those arms got to me. My package I bought from florida hadn't even been shipped in the time my DW arms arrived.

I decided that if I was going to go through all this effort, I was atleast going to replace my bolts with brand new 10.9 bolts:

The subframe reassembled (I also repainted my diff, axels and hub and used Stanced solid diff bushings):

    The front LCA's on:

Once we had all of that put back in place, we went to work putting the subframe back into the car. Thankfully my friend Lawrence has done this about 10 times on his cars so It went in pretty easily.

I then stitched my front lip back together. It was actually surprisingly fun to do this lol. I plan on going Dmax or BN sports kit eventually anyway, so I figured I'd just make do for now.

At that point, my new wheels finally turned up. I ended up going for Work D9R's in a staggered 18x9.5 +12 (now with a 15mm spacer) and 18x10.5 +15 fitment.

Obviously, they are super wide and aggressive on the rear, so I had to get my rear arches pulled pretty hard to get them in. I'm running a fair bit of camber atm..but this should hopefully mean that I'm forced to be low and slow, rather than fast and in a ditch.

After I put the car together, it was sitting like below, I had to eyeball the alignment in order to get to the shop. So I realize that the camber is pretty insane.

I then took the car to a local shop for an alignement. In the end I opted for 4 degrees of camber at the front and 7 degrees at the back. I realize this is a terrible set up for anything but stance, but I guess at this point I've proved im not much of a drifter and the car is more of a show car than anything else. (Check out the plate..asif noone had registered that..lol)

Whilst I was at the alignment shop I noticed a slight oil leak from my Oil feed banjo bolt on the block. I decided to try and fix this the following night which resulted in the car spraying oil all over the floor and now means I need to get the car towed to a local shop so they can fit a helicoil on the block. What a disappointment.

Anyway, just prior to that fail, I managed to get the car washed and take a photo of how it's sitting right now.

I can't wait to get this one last issue fixed and then just enjoy it for a few months. I'm starting to run out of steam with the constant repairs!

    Cheers,
    Scott.

Looking awesome mate. Surely you can use the adjustment on the rear LCA to pull the bottom of the wheel in to get rid of some camber. -7 must drive so badly.

Yeah, I agree that it's extreme. Truthfully this is the 'US' style, It's crazy that i've put so much time and money into this car and because of the wheel setup I had on it before It was getting turned down from events. The Camber and aggressive wheel fitment will atleast mean that the car can start getting the attention it deserves. I think I might be able to drop some camber from the rear, I'll take a look at how much is left on the LCA's and see if I can pull it in slightly.

I have no idea how it drives, as always the car decided to kick me in the face after I got it on the road and the leak has now taken it back off the road. I'm getting it towed to a local specialist today to see if they can fit me in to get a helicoil in the feed to the block, but they said if they can't get me in i'll be without a car for another 2 weeks...meaning that in the 9 months that I have had this car it's actually only been on the road for 3

Cheers for the compliments man! You know what i've said about your car before, It would be potentially one of the best looking 240's in the US if you bought it over here. A huge inspiration to people that want to do their own thing with a car and still look the mutt's.

Yea I know what you're saying. Those damn silly Americans. You'll have to see how it drives. When mine was -3.5 for a few weeks it was terrible much happier back at -1.5!

You're not having much luck at the moment but it'll all come together soon enough..just ready for winter...

    Ha thanks you charmer

Be really carefull with that set up bud, mine was no where near that when I took the rx8 in for alignment and it drove terribly almost un driveable.

I hear yah, to be honest i've been quite suprised how it's driven since I've been running so much camber. I've taken things alot slower, resisted the temptation to kick it sideways when my friend's do, but all in all it still handles like a dream. I did lose traction earlier pulling into traffic alittle quickly, not sure if that was the lack of contact patch..

For some reason it pulled itself out of alignment (toe) at the front since I got it aligned, it was noticably bad on one side, so I've eyeballed it for now (straightened the wheels and steering wheel) until I can get the car to a local Firestone and get it realigned. I'm sketchy about taking my car to those guys even though i've paid for life-time alignment as last time I went they decided that taking my car for a half hour joy ride without the engine fans on was a good idea, and then proceeded to tell me how quick it was...idiots.

Anyway, managed to get the car out and about this weekend, had a blast putting some miles on the old girl finally. The Driftworks arms started creaking a little so I spent some time tonight lithium greasing everything. But other than that she's been doing me proud.

    Scott's USDM Zenki S14 daily.

Hey Chris! Big fan of your build, been following it for ages!

Truthfully it handles fine, it does pull if you hit a pothole but other than that it's fine. We've had some unusual rain the last few days here and I've driven my car in the wet, if I floor it in first and second I get a little squirly, but with 245 tyres on the rear, even with the lesser contact patch I'm still getting a tonne of contact with the road.

I've been following the guys in Japan for years and reading around a lot of them run serious camber (Shun Saitos s14 runs -13 on the rear and -10 on the front iirc) and those guys daily and drift those cars. I'm sure my car would handle terribly on the track but since I'm only dailying the car I'm certainly not worried!
