    Kinell, Arry.

They're a bit thin on the ground and almost all LWB and 100K+ miles.

Are they all V12s ? The early ones were I'm pretty sure.

Why not go all out and get a 760iL ?

All the big stuff seems to be going dirt cheap.
My friends just picked up a a8 diesel for next to nothing for the winter.

You should be able to get an S class for similar money

The E60 5 series has grown on me over time but the Bangle 7 series is still fugly IMO.

I have to agree with Mark as I'm not feeling the look of the newer ones. The older boxy ones looked quite tidy.

The other thing to remember is how easy it will be to knock it on when you're bored with it and how much of a hit you'll take on it.

Will you be able to sell it on for close to what you pay for it 12 months from now ? ...especially if the price of crude goes up again

9K would get him a X350 XJR ....if he can find one...

This was all I could find...

The X308 XJR is getting a bit long in the tooth now.

If you do start looking at these, Arry, steer clear of Sterling Performance. They have two XJR X308s in at strong money for what are highly polished yet distinctly average cars and they're messers too.

I actually quite like the look of them. Looked one over yesterday and no, they're not the most amazing looking vehicle in the world but the equivalent S Class is a bit chintzy looking, the Phaeton just looks boring and I'd love a Jag but...

Supercharged puts me off just from potential repair bills point of view.

In the X350 range, the V8 came as a 3.5 or a 4.2. Very, very few Sports were sold but you'd be better just getting a SWB Sovereign if you want one that handles reasonably.

A good X350 is going to cost you more than 9K though, unfortunately. They usually go for around 10-15K unless you don't mind one with > 100K on the clock.

Then you are better off looking on autotrader or ebay than pistonheads as its generally only the low milers that pop up on pistonheads.

If you are still looking for a diesel estate, please spare a little time and go and drive a Mazda 6 Sport Esate, from 59 plate onwards til 2012. They come within your budget, and if you get an SL are full loaded, heated leather seats, bose plus sub etc very well specced.

However, the reason for the suggestion is the handling, they hussle down a B road like no estate car should, and for someone like you who appreciates DC2's and handling they can be an enjoyable drive.

A stage 2 remap is 240 and take 185bhp to 225 and 295 lb/ft to 350. Timing chain as well so no cambelts, and mine runs better at 110k miles than some new cars. A lot of the owners report 150k on the original clutch and dmf as well

I love my 130i, even though it's nine years old, it wipes the floor with our three year old S3 The suspension is fairly firm though, although plenty out there with Birds or Bilstein shocks which solves that.

Bilstein shocks and Eibach springs seem to make a massive improvement to every car. I am tempted to get them fitted to the next diesel estate I get
