So it took me near a couple of months but I've got the Dansk cans fitted:

Had an absolute mare with fitting. Never want to go through that again.

Thankfully they sound just about the same as stock, if not a touch more aggressive on start up and blipping the throttle but hardly noticeable really, and about the same on a cruise. So that makes me a happy panda.

Sounds like we've taken the similar path after sx ownership. I've also had a beemer for 3 years and have replaced it with a 997.

I had quite a few bits n bobs in between those but yeah, similar. How are you finding the 997?

I'm on completely sold on it if I'm honest. It's incredible when you show it a corner but normal day to day driving isn't very nice. The hassle of allowing the oil to get up to temp, not putting too much torque on the engine when cold, keeping the revs between 2-3k in fear of bore scoring. I miss the ease of use of the beemer.

Pasm is brilliant, I'd like to take it out on track so see what's she's like on the limit but i don't actually think it's as fast as it feels. I was originally looking for a 996 with the factory fitted aero but got impatient and bought a carrera s.

So minor update - apart from the exhaust which I kinda knew would need doing when I bought it, 3000 miles in and costs = zero. Circa 23mpg from the rough calculations I do from time to time when I can be bothered to care. It doesn't appear to be going through tyres (which is a shame because I want to upgrade the rubber but there's too much tread left to bin them) and in every sense of the word it's been utterly reliable.

The motoring journos appear to be pressing the issue of pricing now and I've seen similar cars to mine up for sale for nearly £3,000 more - some dealers are trying to take the piss at £5k+ more but that doesn't seem to be sticking, yet, as the cars aren't selling; but come summer? Maybe. My point is - jump in now if you want to, or watch the ship sail away.....

I can't see it myself, c4s yes but not other models. That's putting them on the toes of 997s.

Its what happens with some cars, they bottom out then start appreciating as they become classics, so as people start snapping them up the price rises.

An Escort Cossie will cost you more than a Mk2 Focus RS, is the Escort the better car, fook no a E30 325i is more than an E36 one

Looks like you made a good call Arry, although I am slightly disappointed it hasnt ruined you

I was going to say that Porsche ownership has turned him into a typical Porsche owner but then I remembered that he's always been a bit of a c**t

Must admit, I am very tempted to upgrade the Z3 to an early 987 later this year. With the daily and hopefully the s14a being back on the road in the next few weeks after nearly 3 years SORNed it's a case of managed insurance/running costs on 3 vehicles just for me though

I am a great fan of Porsche handling and having a car just right out of the factory.

Am put off a 997 due to the amount of issues that could ruin my bank account.

Will let you know. Runs great and have done a few small jobs on it to keep it spot on...also couldn't resists a KN induction kit ha ha.

You may have to fight the better half for it though as she has her eye on it, and a biochemistry degree specialising in poisons...(untraceable ones apparently)

On a side note the parts are such good value for it, got a full new rear screen kit delivered from good supplier for less than £80, the bushes that needed doing where about £5 each for 4 of them, the kit to fix the wing mirror drop problem was only about £35 a side. As popular cars get older you get such a good aftermarket for parts for them.

Norra lot to report really - it's just ticked over 85k and it's due a service so I'm looking for local specialists - thinking DSD Motorwerks in Hutton which is just down the road and have a good reputation; I've not handed a car over for servicing in something like 12 years so this is going to be a new experience for me and I have to say I'm quite nervous about what they might find / charge me for

Otherwise, it's still been absolutely bob on.

Needs a wash, though Haven't had the time of late. Will put some effort into it next weekend - especially now it's Spring

"Not a lot to report" is something not a lot of S body owners get to say.

Yeah, handing any of my cars over for servicing in the past is unchartered territory. I just don't trust any local garages and would prefer to know it's been done properly and decent oils/parts have been replaced. That being said, if you've found somewhere with a good rep, and it saves the hassle, why not.

I'm seriously considering buying a 996, funnily enough to replace my 330d touring. I don't do a lot of miles in my own car (150k+ a year in other people's though) and assuming insurance and tax aren't much more I might take a punt on one. Hopefully as a fairly decent investment. Like you say, they've reached rock bottom and prices are on the up. Would be nice to run one for 3 years until it's paid off, sell it for a profit and buy a house! All while keeping my Nissan as the weekend toy.
