Your car looks absolutely fantastic Arry. Even better under the showroom lights. Looks like you had a good result with the headlights. Think I will copy you, I'm not brave enough to try wet and dry.
Wrong lights? They're the best lights, well apart from that weird gap at the front that makes you think they're going to break while you're cleaning them. I go backwards and forwards over whether the .2 lights are nicer, but they have that chrome button right in the middle that looks odd.
I don't think they should have gone back to round lights. The real defining features of a 911 were quarter of a tonne right where you don't need it and half visible dials and they kept those. The newer ones have some good angles, like an offset front view of a 911R, the lack of rear wing accentuates the width of the rear arch, but a lot of them look like really big 993s. Personally I think the 996C4S is one of the best looking regular 911s ever.
Mine is looking a bit sorry for itself. I hit a pheasant and it's smashed the bumper under the near side light and took out the number plate mount. At least the silver gaffa tape matches.
Thanks mate - it ain't ever gonna be the cleanest but it's an honest example and one that I intend to keep a very long time. Already been 5 years - where does time go eh.
On the lights - honestly i don't see the need to be so aggressive, so the wool pads are a definite good idea. The heat they generate shifts the stains without going mega abrasive. Were not expensive on Amazon - £12 for 3 delivered I think. Plastx seems to work well
I said something quite profound a while back that I can't quite find but this is roughly it:Wrong lights? 964 - proper retro classic
993 - poor revision of classic making a mess of the front lights anyway
996 - modern classic
997 - reverse engineering
Sorry to hear that. Hopefully not too much damage and since 'only' a 996 can be repaired and sorted back to a decent standard to be enjoyed againMine is looking a bit sorry for itself. I hit a pheasant and it's smashed the bumper under the near side light and took out the number plate mount. At least the silver gaffa tape matches.
On another note - had my aircon regassed today. Had the condensers done 5 years ago but it seems a year with the car sat up not being started dried out the oil from the system and - yup - sweaty ballbags.
Now all sorted and ready to enjoy for the summer as soon as we can go somewhere.
When was the last time you went for a drive - just for the sake of a drive?
Tonight, it felt like we were gliding towards the end goal together with nothing but the odd car to get past to stop us
Lovely pics
Is that Bradwell? Haven't been down that way for years
Hope yours is running well Arry.
Passed 5000 miles since last July this morning, on my favorite back road, stuck behind a huge truck.
Got the front repaired, but other than that it's cost me £32 for a reverse switch (again cheaper than D911) and a tenner in trim clips. Oh and an oil change.
Struggling to find why it took 9.5 litres of oil. Doesn't look like a deep sump. Any ideas?
Mine's running lovely mate. Not done as many as 5000 miles this year yet but I think I've tucked away about 2000 which given lockdown hasn't been too bad a result. But yeah, when I've been out in it, it's been spot on
From memory the earlier cars took about .5 quarts less than the later cars. Can't remember why. I seem to recall it's 8.7 on the later cars so if that's ex filter then you're not far off I guess.
Or I wonder if someone fitted an X51 sump to yours?
Hadn't thought of that. I'll check it out see if I can tell. I think the FVD one is pretty obvious.
I forgot one of the "Dansk Style" exhausts snapped at the flexi, don't they all? Got a couple of spares from ExhaustsUk and welded it in, think they were only £17 each. Will do the other one when I get around to it.
Wonder what this will go for

Sure they were looking around £80k. In their dreams.
Yeah 80k ain't gonna happen... Nice though.
My Dansk are still ok, touch wood, but if I knew then what I know now etc....
