This is quite a common moan on the Jag forums and 9K buys you a 9 yr old car with 135K miles on the clock.... I think the budget needs to be bigger (like 15K) to consider XFs really as then you can get a later model Portfolio with sensible miles.

Can't say I ever found it an issue. I know the touchscreen felt really intuitive and user-friendly to me, can't comment on idrive or anything like that as I've always been a Jag guy. I'd have another XF in a heartbeat if I could afford one. V8 natch.

If you're looking at the diesels, worth being aware there are 2 versions of the 3-litre iirc. S models had more power, I think the giveaway is a boot spoiler

The current system is better, but still not great.

I'm reliably informed the new system (debuts on the XE) is quite good however.

If you haven't tried any of the competition then it probably won't bother you, but it is a long way behind what else is/was out there at the time it was released.

I'm happy with a cassette deck as long as the car is good dynamically

Right so resurrection time on this as it is definitely new car time NOW

Original requirements out of window I think. I have a maximum of 10k and want something nice and if possible a bit 'different' or special I guess

Been looking at 650i's and 2 door 335i's - also potentially R34 GTT just as a total curve ball. I guess S15 not totally out of question but not a fan of the SR...

Anything else? Evo? Big luxury barge of some description? Bottom end 911 market?

335i with a remap would have my vote. Not a fan of the 6 series, and most online reviews say their too heavy to be a "fun" car but not as refined as say a merc for cruising.

    Soarer? Chaser with a 1jZ?

    Impreza type ra?

Remapped 335 will be a bit of a monster imho, a sub 10k one might want to grab your wallet by the privates though...

Z4 coupe 3.0 Si? 265bhp looks great, well built, handles well, depreciates slow, lowish running costs, NA engine sounds great.

Would love a Z4 - always liked them - but with only 2 seats it could only be a second car rather than an only car for me. Good shout though

That's a good plan - get the Z4, then what you want is a Clio 172 for cheap with the leftover money as a daily hack

If you want a 4-seater, have you looked at the CL600 ?

Oh god I love CL600's. But they're on the same plane for financial cripplement as SL's. Beautiful cars, the C-pillar is a work of art

Go on Arry, be awesome, be brave.
Check out YT for videos of the Cl600's with aftermarket exhausts, then come back not wanting one

If you want a Merc try a CLK Sport from 2006 onwards with a 6 cylinder or better engine. Full size rear seats, looks great as well in Sport spec, and built very well. Mine was so good the Mrs nicked it!

I am a massive CL and SL fan but there are not enough brave pills in the world to make me buy one

What are the requirements now then, as the old ones are gone??

There are so many cars you can get in that 10K budget you'll have to narrow it down before you get swamped with ideas.

That ute is so cool . I do need 4 seats though

Monaro I suppose should go on list too

    Mustang in that price range?

Requirements are really just something nice, interesting, relatively non money pit and depreciation proofed, maintenance light ie not out working on it constantly, reasonable levels of comfort ie no track cars or Integras

Merc CL would be awesome but I am sooo not that brave!
