Let us know your thoughts on the 335i if you drive one. Really really tempted myself. Purely because add extra with a remap and a couple mods their faster than an m3 (fair enough not v8) but also quite subtle..

What I can tell you so far is they sound nice and they're rev happy!

Off to see a TME in black with the stripes and everything. Can't believe I'm mid 30's and contemplating a car covered in rally stickers with a chin the size of Sophie Ellis Bextor's

Haha awesome....don't worry dude I'm 25 and still driving an old beemer with a lairy spoiler lol. Wasn't sure if the 335i's would be revvy like the older 6 pots. Glad they are

What's the exhaust note like? Similar to another factory turbo 6 pot (like skyline supra) or is the turbo note subtle?

It's fruity but doesn't sound very turbocharged.

TME was shit. The spaz garage owner was trying to pass it off as a striped model - it wasn't - they'd put the stripes on themselves, badly. Several cuts into the paint. Idiots - it would have been a nice clean ish base black model without that. Completely standard apart from an Apex radiator

Oh dear God. Some people really don't know how to sell cars do they? Was it a clean car aside from that?

It wasn't half bad for sure. It's ruined now though - every panel pretty much has scalpel cuts in the paint

It's worth it when it's over though and you got a shiney new motor out front

Eh? On the S15, a well mapped SR20 is one the most economical performance cars I have ever driven???

What other 400bhp car could average a real world 35mpg on a 180 mile drive to Japfest etc?

Something like a 335d? Probably double the mpg with a remap and a shit ton faster?

someone had to do it...suggest a diesel as a fun weekend car...go and stand in the corner

Doesnt matter if it runs on recycled mong pee, if it is reasonably light, rwd and has 500+ foot of torque then it will be a proper nut job to drive.

Auto and diesel just don't cut it as a fun car for me though.

Not when there are so many better alternatives for the same money or less.

The 335d is not even great on mpg, and Arry has already said a few times above that mpg is not a consideration.

As a "one car" solution for some people it might make sense.

As sideways said,I'm not bothered what fuel goes in it. Regardless it's gonna shove you in the back of the seat and absolutely destroy tyres when you want. But on the flip side be a nice drive for when you need to travel.

Tbf the new diesels don't even sound like diesels much anymore. So much smoother nowdays.

My point was scottie that there are much better performance machines nowdays that have more power and more economy and can be fun to drive as an sbody . The fact that the interiors don't fall apart and they don't need yearly welding is a bonus too.

It's funny how the modern diesels are sounding so much better...and the more modern petrols are sounding worse!

In fact Arry have you thought about a GT86, the first ones are not far off your budget now, look great, cheap to run, a cracking drive and the sort of car you like i.e. dynamics over straight line pace?

I nearly went to buy an R at weekend, one will probably be my next car. Though there's money-pit potential there, I think I'd trust one over an equivalently aged comparable Merc, Audi or Beemer on that score.

Current daily is an '04-reg 2.5V6 S-type and it has taken what's been thrown at it up to now. It's just gone through an MOT and my only costs in 12k miles have been brakes, tyres and petrol. And even those haven't been as eye-wateringly bad as you'd think. The only thing that'd I'd consider getting to replace it would be a 4.2V8 or an R, and I'm not in a massive rush on that, just watching what's around.

Yeah but the gt86 is slow.
Dont care if it handles like a baby 911 or slides like a boss its still dog slow.

I'd say if you wanted fine handling an mx5/mr2 would be better. A gt86 doesn't have what I call back seats really either.

Is it really slow down a B road?

I'd rather have a light car with dynamic ability than one that is straight line fast but handles like crap.

The DC2 is similar power and weight to GT86 and that is not classed as slow.

Fun is more important than pure speed for the sake of it
