    Ca s13 problem

Basically driving along the car looses power and just starts popping and banging, throwing flames out the back.

Pulled to the side of the road and the car stalled, tried turning over and nothing.

Haven't had a proper look over the car as it was dark.

Thinking it's dropped a coil pack?

So it still turns over without starting now? Is this the first time you've had the problem? How long were you driving with it popping and banging for until it stalled?

I can't see if being a coil pack as I wouldn't expect it to stall. The car should be able to run on 3 cylinders surely.

Yeah, car was running for no more than 5 mins.
Pointing towards cas now rather than coil pack I think mate

    Need more information.

    Thinking aloud at midnight:
    - New problem today, or something that's been threatening for a while? If it's been running a bit rough for weeks but not enough to worry about, it does affect the suggested cures.
    - If you actually are forced to stop at the roadside, it's affecting 4 cylinders, not just one (coil pack only affects one)
    - CAS could be a cause if it has been disturbed recently, otherwise not.
    - If nothing has been fiddled with recently, then fuel pump, ignition module, or (air flow meter) AFM oiling might be possibles.

Been and had a look at the car tonight,

Started with boost leak, all pipes are tight and on
    It has fuel going in
    It has a spark

How can I check if it's a dead cas?

Cant see the cas just suddenly dieing tbh!

Have you run diagnostics on ecu?
Take cas off and inspect the splines on the end of the exhaust cam and cas also make sure the D shaped locator peg is still there.
make sure to mark exact position of cas before removal if you dont have a timing gun!
    maybe do a compression test?

Sounds awfully like a big boost leak tho.

Yea they are you an do it on the ecu no cable required! Have a look in the useful threads in tech s13 for the guide on how to do it.

Been up and had a look at the car,
Ecu reads back 55 so can't find any faults
Taken cas off nothing seems broken on it.
Checked boost leaks again can't find anything
    Afm looks clean

I haven't done a compression test yet but wouldn't it of been smoking like a ****er if it was a ring on the way out?

If the ignition module was dead would it still spark?

I would pressure test all the ic pipework see if that shows up any leaks.
Will it not start at all? Try taking the fuelpump fuse out and crank it see if it fires then put the fuse back in.

    What mods etc you running?

Soon as it fires put fuse back in and see if it fires could of been flooded! Is it your car or your bro's?

Has the fuel pump been hard wired?

If you can get it running check what fuel pressure you have at the rail etc.

I had a similar problem and was down to the 20 year old wiring to the pump not providing enough voltage and therefore not enough fuel pressure
