We can do springs without taking the head off - done a few now. Use the air line in the spark plug hole method - works well.

Post a picture of the manifold your using as I'm curious to see its design

I like that idea jez. I may knock up a fitting .

This is the manifold I made.

The collector flange looks very restrictive, maybe 40-45mm diameter?

    HD manifold test

Bit bigger than that. It's the same size as the turbo inlet.
You could put a t28 flange port inside the diameter easily. It's actually quite big

The manifold design looks good and well done to me,no obvious flaws from looking at the picture
possibly runners 2 and 3 are slightly shorter making it kind of unequal length design
my guess is if the manifold is the common denominator of the boost rpm issue it is pointing towards the manifold
no idea why though as its not like the manifold has some horrific sharp bends,
it looks to be a free flowing design and similar to other Branded designs

maybe some Sr's (as in yours with that manifold) are more prone to the soft valve springs causing probs?
and the only fix is harder springs or another mani,
or redo that one with shorter 2 and 3 runners to create a pulse effect so the slug's of exhaust gases is not arriving
at the collector at the same time, similar to the effect the OE cast manifold gives

I know the runner lengths are paired differently on the OE mani that is just an idea to get that mani to work
without starting over and building another from scratch

Yeah I kinda went for the full race design. It seems to be pretty common as you say. And it was a marked response and peak power increase over the log style one I had before for the scoob turbo.

    Any recommendations for valve springs?

Where did you get your .td05 flanges from?

When you work out your springs, give me a shout. I'm still decoding the awful mess that is parts catalogues for them. With no idea or data, it's hard to pick the right spring stiffness.

Drifter uses Ferrera (sp) springs with good results. But there ar eloads including Tomei, Supertech etc etc.

I'll have a look. I was going to use a set of Brian crower springs.
I had the flanges lazer cut ghost.
