    New alternator

How many miles in your experience before the alternator gives up?

My car has now done 105k and with the winter fast approaching wondering whether to change the alternator before it lets me down. Same as my starter motor thread, but please only keep this one about alternators as it will prove to be a good reference for people later.

    So,
    Year of car:

    Mileage at time of death:

I had an original alternator die on me but I was nearing 200k.
I wouldn't replace something that isn't broken, have one handy perhaps but I wouldn't fit it unless your car is showing symptoms of it dying.

As above, starter motors, alternators are only replaced when they break. They are not a service item.

I still have the original and it's done a bit over 200 000km.

I have two spares sitting on the shelf. I doubt I'll need either of them. They don't usually give up unless there is some sort of other electrical failure with the car.

It also depends on how much electronics you have in you car. I don't have any audio equipment in mine for example...

Ok so varied figures. Mine is a 2000 with 105k miles so should be alright for a while. Just don't wanna be in a situation where it gives up on me miles from home lol
