Fast Fords are ingrained into every British boys memory, you only have to look at the S/H prices for XR3i's now to see that - despite not actually being that good, the nost***ia element makes them well pricey, also see Mk1/Mk2 Escorts, RS Turbo's, XR2's etc.
When I was 11 years old my old man was choosing between an S13 and a Capri as a company car, the Capri won hands down for me because I knew what it was and what it could do.

The only fast Ford I've ever owned I liked was a Mk2 XR2. The rest of them were pretty shabby, tbh.

I think your memory might be playing tricks on you there as the Capri went out of production in 1986 and the S13 wasn't introduced until 1989.

I was choosing between an Opel Manta GTE Exclusive and a Capri 280i as a new car purchase in 86 and the Manta won hands down

Officially yes the capri ended on a '86 D plate but the dealerships had loads of stock in various places up and down the country
loads of 280 brooklands were E plated a handful were F '88 and in Beauleiu motor museum they have a '90 G plate iirc there were four on G plates
and there was at least one '90 H possibly more than one but unconfirmed possibly hidden in fords collection

I was in the capri owners club in the early 90's and I worked with the head of the south east england division and he used to know everything
about them and used to bore us all to tears practically with info daily, I had 8 iirc (mk1's,mk2's and mk3's) he had over 30 easy

I was never a real fan of the manta, tried them in various guises and the crapi had the edge to me driving (and power) wise
looks wise the gte was a looker, the 400 (road version of the gte) with the twin round headlamps was nice

Jimmy McRae in the proper manta 400 was epic, equally so the Zakspeed capri was revolutionary in its day

Manta for me too. Loved them & still have a lot of love for em now. I had several GTE Co. cars, one in J. R. Gold which I wrote off... Loved the coupe over the hatch, & even had an Exclusive (the run out model) on it's way to me, but it literally fell off the transporter whilst being delivered to the dealer! One of the most annoying cars I ever had was the 1st Manta, a 1.8 Berlinetta. Skin off a rice pudding & all that, but looked the part. Hated having a car that looked faster than it went. About 90bhp I think.

Pools win, & a 400 would be in my collection. Best start doing the pools.

First time I saw 200SX, about 15 years ago, I thought it was a Ferrari. :-D
    Love was instant!
But as I grew up and earned money to buy one, number of decent one came close to zero.
So in about last five years I have never gave up. Looking silently, and constantly prolonging my advert: Buying 200SX in mint condition, no matter what price!
So I begun to lose faith, and almost bought Alfa Romeo 166 two months ago, when man called me to make an offer. So I went to see it, and boy was I shocked! There it was, in the garage, under the cover. S13 in condition, like it was made a year ago. Perfectly perfect! :-)
Torn apart, and built from scratch two years ago. Black, forged, stage 1 with 17" Mile Miglia alloys...
Bought it after 5 minutes of watching. Payed the asked price, and no cent less. And reason more is, chassis number ending in 505
505th 200SX made from factory in 1989 year.

I was looking for a car to use while my beetle was built, I had 2k to spend and all I was interested in was that it was rear wheel drive and the faster the better. I was looking at BMW's and Merc 190E's but if they were within my budget they were total dogs. I didn't know anything about 200sx's and to be honest didn't even know they were rear wheel drive. After reading up online about them I stopped looking at BMW's and Mercs and starting hunting for 200sx's. I still have my first S13 though its pretty much just a bare shell waiting for me to get my arse in gear. That was 12 years ago and thanks to my S13's the beetle has been shelved for now.

My mum wrapped hers while I was in it on the school run in the early 90s. Wanted one myself ever since, finally had the money and was old enought to insure about 10years ago. Hooked since :-)

I wanted jap, popups and RWD, so I bought an MR2. Then realised mid engine was too serious for a bit of fun so sold it and got my S13!
By far the most exciting car i've had. What I love in a car is simplicity, lack of driver aids and fun without going crazy speeds, my S13 is perfect at stage 2, crappy tyres, abs removed, stripped interior.
It tries to kill me every other minute in the damp and isn't much better in the dry but I love it!

It was the fastest, stupidest thing I could find for the lowest amount of money, and still get insured at 23 as a first car

Impulse buying a total shitter was a short-term mistake, but a very good learning exercise

12 years later*, I guess it's become a sentimentality thing. Nothing sub £30k floats my boat enough to want to get rid of it. Plus they're so rare, it looks even more standout than ever . Are there really only around 50 UK S13s left now??!

*Trigger's-Broom upgrade to 180sx in 2007, transferring some goodies and a clutch pedal.
