Very little we can do with just the Mac address.

A search for that comes back with a network technologies supplier called AirTies, god knows what bit of kit this is in though - sure a details scrape might bring up a few supplies using there tech but... meh its a lot of buggering about.

Surely your network is secured and this chancer is just knocking on the door and getting no further??

The network is secured but I have a feeling the device is undeclared and in house , Possibly a playstation ?

Are you sure it's not another device in your house or a check neighbor.

If you change your setting and stop boardcasting the network name and change it to something random tho you will to update all your other devices

It's probably some device you've forgotten about, or it's still showing the MAC address of a device that left the house a while ago - like a mate or something??

If the network is secure it's pretty unlikely someone's hacked into it, unless you're running WEP security or something??

Could you implement MAC filtering on your wireless router?

Both are pretty pointless, anyone actually attacking your wireless LAN would get past both within a few minutes.

Yeah but the chances are it's just a neighbors at worst so no ssid hiding won't secure the network but stops showing up on others computers unless you live near a computer expert meaning you know who's house to go mash. I always think of it as you don't sign on your garage saying ferrari 458 inside yeah the experts will still nick it but they chancer will walk past.

I would disable its access and see who moans first :-)

As for neighbors and ssid's, i find making a few gash ones labled
    "****"
    "Right"
    "off"
    "****"

    Usually gets the point across.

What wireless security are you using on your router? WEP, WPA etc are you still using the default code/admin username and password? Disable any remote access to the router too if you can. Some routers allow for the firmware to be upgraded to third party firmware's which can in some instances give you more features.

I understand MAC filtering will not stop a determined hacker but it will fend of the dumb ass chancer...for a while.

Also if this MAC address is appearing in your DHCP list then they are not trying to hide behind a cloned MAC address else you would not have spotted them in the first place.

You could do an ARP -A in a CMD windows to see if you can get an IP address of the device and scan it for open ports. It may shed some more light on what the device may be.

Assuming this is not an ancient router with WEP or no wireless security at all you need to ask the question, How have they got on in the first place?

To be sure I would just change everything. Admin password and username if possible, change wireless key from the default and use the maximum security possible. Disable remote management and uPNP.

Are you sure no one has just read the key off the back of your router O.o

I know who owns the device and he lives with us but has not told me of all the devices he has connected , The mac address shown above only appears at certain times but when it does the network grinds to a halt I just need to know which type of device it is before I throw all of his out of the window

Sounds like his super pron machine, pops online to download some grumble flicks and turns off when he's finished with himself.

Thats exactly what I was thinking!
I had a situation where the bog roll would vanish, network would max then network would settle and bog roll re-appear. Didnt take long for me to sus what my former house mate was doing
