Rackmount server help...
Hey all, this is my first post in years....
I'm looking to buy a rackmount server:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16859108152
but I haven't bought one for 20yrs so not sure if there's something else I need to purchase with this other than the O/S, O/S user licenses and some drives.
Any ideas if that includes all I'd need to put into our company rack, plug into the network and go?

Er what are you using it for as that kind of has quite a major impact on the spec lol.

Nothing too serious - just to run an Application Portfolio Management tool on it which may potentially run across applications with a couple of million LoC. It's above minimum spec for that though in terms of processors. I'm buying three compatible drives for it - would I need some additional hardware to run these in RAID 5?

Looks like its controller supports all flavors of raid so you should not need owt more than a few SAS drives.
Only 16gig, is that acceptable for a server for you?

Yeah, it's just going to be used for a single app and for pre-sales purposes so only me on it. Does that link seem to good to be true?

3K dollars is about the going rate for a DL360 G8 isn't it ?
What is it that you think is too good to be true ?
They're about 2K +VAT sterling over here.

The two processors included were $3000 a pop in 2013 and I guess I'm just trying to be careful before I spunk $5k on server and disks.

It's HP so should come with all the rack mounting equipment, including cable management.
Not sure how critical this server is or where it is located but I always add an iLo licence just in case of an out of hours server issue.

Good stuff, thanks all. And BTW, I still miss my S14a every week....especially now that I'm looking to get a Nissan Leaf....

Why go raid 5?
Buy a couple of 2Tb disks and raid 1 then. You then dont get the performance hit with RAID 5.
We've got loads of them in work. There solid. Only 1 failed with a RAID controller card failure.
