    Oil pressure

I have just brought an X plate s14a manual, it has two defi gauges on dash one is a boost controller and the other an oil pressure gauge. I am fine with boost but as for oil pressure I have no clue. On cold start I the car ticks over at approx 1500rpm oil pressure at that point shows 6psi I think, when warmed at about 800rpm oil pressure shows 1.5/2.

Can anyone shine any light on this and let me know what I should be looking out for plz

    Thanks Matt

If that's bar it's good. 6bar on cold engine is normal and 1-2bar when it's hot.
If it really is 1.5psi You have a problem...

As above, probably in BAR, and sounds fine if it is.

It also depends on the density of oil you take, you will not make the same if you wear a 5-30, a 10-50 ..... for instance

    15psi = 1bar roughly

If you had 6psi at cold idle I'd be worried, but 6bar x 15 = 80psi at cold idle sounds healthy.
When cold and revved up, higher than 100psi is possible. Best avoided though. Avoid high revs until the oil has warmed up a bit.

When hot and the oil is thinner, idle oil pressure can be as low as 15psi or 1bar.
Much lower than that is unhealthy, though IIRC the Nissan dash warning light does not come on until pressure is down to 6 or 7 psi, which is way too low and damage has probably already happened.

Anything less than 1bar at idle is bad,
Anything less than 3bar when driving at say 3000rpm is bad.

I'd like to quote an oil pressure figure for a hot healthy engine at full pelt 6000rpm, but I dunno. Guessing about 6bar.
    Does anyone know ?

Mine seems to sit at 2 bar on idle once warm.

Full pelt once warm I've seen it peak about 8 bar

From memory the minimum tolerance in manual is 11psi warm idle, 55psi warm at 3k rpm

Yer 11psi when warm at idle is the manual bottom limit, most should be around 15-25psi.

Apart from a low figure the main thing you want to look out for is a flickering needle, if it drops off suddenly when accelerating or cornering then the level is probably low.

What are people getting on boost at around 6/7 thousand rpm??

I seem to be holding 7 bar with boost gauge showing 1.2 bar, does that sound right?

Same 7 bar while on boost at about 6000rpm
