    'Proper' Home routers

I've had enough of the various shortfalls of the free routers/Linkysts WAC jobby that I've been juggling for years. Can anyone recommend a decent WiFi router for home user?
Gigabit isn't that important, as I use a separate switch, but I want consistent, reliable, strong signal (I live in a house with foil lined 9" brick walls...)
Using ADSL, as cable isn't available, and the FTTC is silly money at the mo.
Something that doesn't keep dumping leases for no reason would be nice too.

Budget - I have no idea - I don't really know where I should be starting!

    I use one of these:

    TD-W8980 (http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1437256.htm?CMPID=GS001&_$ja=cgid:8710714622|tsid:41408|cid:177979742|lid: 55247190902|nw:g|crid:38920529102|rnd:459783154735 804248|dvc:c|adp:1o2)

Current uptime is 53 days, not have any problems with it. Wifi signal is good, and it's easy to configure

Dreytek... more business than home use, but that's a good thing.

I have had both draytec and currently billion routers, both excellent and far in excess of the shite you get from isp's

My current Netgear (DGND3700) has been the most reliable router I've had - wireless hasn't dropped once and if I hadn't switched it off by mistake last night I couldn't tell you the last time I switched it off or rebooted it. The Draytek I had briefly was woeful - both for wireless (even with Draytek's largest aerials, 3 of them!) and ADSL reliability. I supplied another to a customer at the same time and their one was just as bad. Unfortunately, Draytek were useless at solving the problem (though they were very nice about it!), so although I know a few on here (Sideways being one of them) swear by Draytek, my own experience was disastrous.

My old Draytec Vig was not the greatest when it came to wireless, although that didnt bother me, it was pretty decent elsewhere though and had excellent security but i have now moved on to a Billion Bypac and its got even better features and security but does not have wireless - not a prob as my old HH is now doing wireless duties for it.

However i now have another router waiting to come home which is kicking about under my desk at work, its a cisco 2801 - more commonly found in racks up and down the country. I am looking for a cheep vdsl2 module for it so i can use it in instead of the billion + openreach fttc modem. Fit that and a gigabit 4 port module and its a (noisy) stonker.

Suffice to say its massive overkill for home use

If you are having problems with WiFi, I doubt any router will help considering your 9" brick foil lined walls

More likely multiple wireless bridges connected via Ethernet

Yeah i would just slap a couple of AP's on the switch for better wireless if thats all it was that was a problem.

Still, get a decent router though as the boss ones are far better than the basic naff you get given to you.

Had one of these for a while and live in a 20's built solid wall house and it never drops a connection unlike the old hh4 we had before and the multiple netgear we had before that

In fairness, the HH5 is supposed to be quite decent, although I've never touched one. 11ac as well, which is nice.
