I called Greenlight a few months ago, the bloke checked on the system and said "ah you got a quote last year" as i'd been shopping around (as i was going to this year too) and he said in "so are you going to actually get your insurance from us this year or just use us to get a quote and go elsewhere"
my phone then dropped its signal..removing the satisfaction of putting the phone down on the bloke
Ive championed Greenlight in the past based on a blinding quote you gave to a friend, this however will not happen anymore
just want to say ive gone with greenlight this year as they saved me nearly 200 on my renewal. got a quote from another one but felt I was getting pressured to sign up there and then with a 'this is a once only offer, and the isurer wont hold out on this quote' which I thought was bo##ocks and wont get a quote from them! what really gets me is this 'we'll beat any quote!!!! being with the same insurer for years why cant you give me the best quote each year, I have to phone round to get better deals that you say you'll beat. so why isn't my renewal cheaper in the 1st place!!!!! I can understand people getting pee'ed of for people phoning for that reason.
anyway, my rant done, thanks greenlight, saved me money and got better extra's than else wear!
The " you need to take this policy now " is bollocks sales tactics to pressure someone into the policy. Both sky and flux said that to me yet each time I rung back was cheaper again and again
I think its refreshing to have an insurance company quote you their best price first time and not try and rip you off. Why on earth would you give your money and trust a company that tried to initially screw you over?
I always get my renewal then get quotes from certain other companies and then pick the cheapest (within reason, service and reputation is important as well, for example Mr Flux will never get my business even if he was giving away free cover) I dont go calling other companies back to price match and lots of times when i have not renewed I have been told they could match the price but its too late then
My renewal this year on my Land Rover was so good with Greenlight I didnt even bother trying to beat it as I knew it was a waste of time
These guys are a specialist insurance broker. they do leg work to get you a good price. If you are then going between company to further reduce this based on the qoute they have worked on, then im on Green Lights side here.
Playing companys off against one another is ok if you just want the best price but dont expect the same service as if your a loyal customer. remember they also need to make some money!
Im not with Green light or plan to be as im driving a scrapper btw and normally wouldnt side with a car insurance broker.
If he wasn't rude then get over it!
I never said he was rude. It was the attitude I was asking about of 'we probably won't quote you'
I got a renewal via post, called around, then called current insurer who bettered the other quotes.
I'd be more than happy to get a price on the new car via Greenlight. If they are cheapest they get my business.
You ring multiple companies looking for best price/deal. Go with best price/deal. Ring a year later and get refused a quote because Greenlight the previous year? Sounds like terrible service from a company tbh!
Def everyone plays companies off against each other, it's business and its.making the most of.your money
Say you want an extension on your house, do you get just one guy round to do the quote? Or would you call several for competitive quotes?
Same for cars, say you wanted to get an engine built, would you just call apt and go with whatever they offer? Or would you call several places and get some other prices? But how would you feel if the next time you wanted an engine built, and apt said "no we won't work on your car as I quoted you a job and you went elsewhere"
I agree 100% on this, its business I get it in my industry everyone does.
if they had quoted and the quote was significantly cheaper i would have gone with them.
as it stood i was going to take the policy out with green light i had called my insurance co. back to cancel my renewal they then matched, if on the other hand they didn't match I would have gone with green light...simple really.
I understand what you're all saying about shopping around. I'd like to add that greenlight is the only insurance company that I'll stick up for. Thus far I've found their customer service to be sublime and every time I've had to speak to them I've left the conversation feeling happy. This is especially strange as I hate spending money and normally find insurance companies infuriating
The extras and the service I've received from the guys at greenlight not to mention the cheapest quotes I've had to date are impressing me more and more each time, my renewal quote was spot on as well.

I guess a good 75% is down to the client as well as the other contributing factors, some people are more 'insureable' than others (it sounded like a word lol).
Fair enough Chris but I don't exclude places like flux or sky.
For instance, on the e36 I bought sky offered me an unbelievable package that absolutely nobody could come near (the usuals) plus things like a very favourably agreed evaluation, like for like on aftermarket parts. The absolute best was agreeing a cap in. Writing for future mods (so whatever mods I do they won't charge more than 10% for, for example a full on 500bhp turbo conversion would be no more than 100 quid added on the policy, which for me is astounding.
But flip side flux came out tops for my other half's modified a3, again best price, good agreed evaluation, plenty of extras for free and has everything you can think of.

I will never use flux again. Every year I was with them they lost my paperwork and threatend to cancel my insurance. The final straw was when my renewal price for the daily was in excess of three times the amount everyone else was offering it for and then they took the payment three days earlier than stated (was meant to be three working days) so the money had gone before I could cancel the policy.
Service is worth a lot IMHO.

Quite a few places I know take the renewal payment early. Again I've been with flux 3 times over the past several years. Once had a bad experience with them, but they've been brilliant with my other half nothing to complain of.
So arry, we (dicks) have been trained to not accept renewal prices, we've been trained to ring around, we've been trained NOT to fall for "deal's for now only Mr Dick" fake calls to action, & we've been trained to not consider the 'Freebies' we're offered like extra Legal Cover have any validity. BUT, - Not trained to value service, NOT trained to value cover differentials & NOT trained to understand or value 'Broker Advantages', as you phrase it. Who's the Teacher here, & who're the pupils.
Whilst I accept plenty of us ARE indeed dicks, I suspect your industry needs to examine itself 1st, before bemoaning the 'pupils' they make their money from. Most of the comments on this thread (& most other threads that feature Motor Insurance) talk of very poor service, NOT very good service, (admittedly influenced as ever by the Rule of 42) which either means the profits from motor insurance are so low they can't afford good staff, worthy training or functioning CRM's, or alternatively don't see a value in investing in these...
Like you though I suspect, I wince when I see comments saying (all) insurance is a rip-off, etc, the oft expressed feelings relating to spending on 'things ethereal' rather than a pint in your hand or steering wheel in the palm. That is, until a car is stolen, suffers 'Rapid Corrosion', or modified by impact, then assuming the insurance Co. deal with the claim equitably & with pace, - value is suddenly perceived!

I must admit, I always shop around at renewal time and have done for years. But this year my Greenlight renewal has come through and, like Mark, I'm not going to bother calling round this year as it's already £459 and that's fantastic.
I have always argued against 'matching' costs, purely because the company that says they will match a price is the company that didn't give me their best price first. I know it's business, but these days there are very few rewards for loyalty and Greenlight are refreshingly different.
