Just about everyone I've heard talk about them have said things that could be summed up in one word "Underwhelming".
They're not cheap to run and they don't quite live up to the hype.
Because they do everything in a very 'German' way - i.e very well and tick all the boxes, but without the idiosyncrasies that make things interesting.
Probably why people buy them funny Nissan then..
350Z and change.
I doubt anyone that's driven an E46 M3 would call them boring. Cracking engine, SMG is mental fun, wrapped up in a usefully sensible package. Take one for a drive, redline it, and tell me it's boring!
Just sold my E46 M3, it was boring.
It went fast but it didn't have any real drama, it was easy to drive quickly or at low speed, but it was too "comfortable" and didn't really feel as fast as it was going. Mine was a manual and I know what zep means about the gearbox, it's hardly the worlds greatest

I stand corrected!
Admitedly, I did sell my M3 for an Exige because I wanted something more exciting, but in the context of a practical car that can seat 5 with a big boot, it is still pretty special. Compared to equivalent Audis, Mercs, etc.
I think the point is that, compared to a Peugeot, the M3 is exciting. Compared to a 200SX, its uninvolving and dull.
It depends where you've come from.
