Check out the FPV HUB (www.fpvhub.com) forum, they know their stuff when it comes to quads.

Get on the Modelsport forum loads of guys have them on there, seems hubsan is the one most people have, but join up there and they will tell you the best model for the money, I think maplins sell a quadcopter but unsure of spares especially if your paying around £400 on one.

For your budget and what you want it for I would probably go for a DJI Phantom 2. No messing about, pretty much ready to go out of the box
Available from Hobbyking, ready to fly at £393.82 Obviously you will have delivery on top but well worth the money if you can stretch to it
You can also get mounts specifically made for it and the GoPro

Sound advice, there are a number of cheaper models than the DJI Phantom but for under £400 you will be getting the very best Quadcopter available. For Best Quadcopter Reviews please check out my blog http://droneflyers.wordpress.com

Phantom 2 is at £556 from hobbyking. The older phantoms are about £350.

A friend of mine has a Phantom, it's bloody brilliant. I don't know if they all have the built in GPS with the return-to-home functionality but it really does make it so easy to fly. Let go of everything and it just stays wherever it is!
