Knocking sound after headgasket change, lifter?

Just finished changing the head gasket and now I got a knocking sound that seems to be coming from the top end.
Do you think it's caused by one of the lifters having air in them? Will they bleed themselves in time?
I did bleed them before putting them back in, but I guess it's possible that one got air inside somehow after bleeding.

If it is one of the lifters making the sound can I still drive it for a bit?

If I could drive for a few hundred kilometers I could pull the cams and retighten the headstuds at the same time when I bleed the lifters again.

Anyways here is a video of the sound:

Oh and I don't have VVT anymore so it cant be that...

Well I re bled the lifters and put it back together and still about the same sound... Well took the rocker cover off again and now there is one valve shim missing
I guess it has stick to the rocket arm when I took it off and dropped somewhere... Didn't find it anywhere... This is just my luck.

Any ideas where I could get new shim from quickly? All my shims were the same thickness. I will have one of the other ones measured tomorrow so I know which size I need.

I might have some spare shims but obviously I couldn't get them to you that quickly and may not have the size that you need.

You may need to find the shim though as you don't want it floating about really.

I'm rather sure that it dropped outside the engine. As I was doing the lifter bleeding with my father and he said he thought something dropped when he took the rocker off. And he was sure it dropped outside the engine...

Anyways I'll measure the shim and with any luck you could have one I need. With priority mail it should be here in about 3 days

You need to match the height to the other shim in the pair. So you'll need a DTI and stand that slots into the lifter hole. They need to be with 1 thou of each other across the rocker.

I had all my shims measured when I built the head originally and they were all identical in size. So I can just measure one now... It was 3.02mm.

I have a look later when I'm back home. Did you have the valves out when you had the head off?

Didn't have Them off now when I changed the gasket. But originally my head was cracked so needed to change it. I had all the valves machined to same height so I can use identical shims on every valve.

Thanks to Chriscooke I got a new shim today and put the car back together. Now the sound is gone. So I guess it was about the air in the lifters the first time and the lack of the missing shim the second time :P

Sorry to bump an ancient thread, but I found the shim!

    It was....

    Inside the oil pan

So it did drop inside the engine after all...
