Cheers , all of us prefer the 200 running gear as its what we know and parts are more readily available just one last section then the whole chassis is made up of box

Agreed stick with nissan for huge range of r200 diff ratio options, maybe something like 4:1 ish I'm thinking
I don't think a tall 3.6 would be ideal for fun factor, good for crazy high top end (160mph+) and economy cruise tho
    maybe 3.9 auto 14 diff would work if can't find a 4.1?

Good progress over the last couple of weekends all the chassis rails have been replaced with box section the rear sections that go round the wheels have changed dramatically to allow the Nissan subframe to be fitted

    Old versus new

Should be room to use the s14 tank and floor over the new rails

Rear subframe almost in place needs to come down at the back a bit

Front subframe just needs brackets welding on
Should get both sorted next week and running gear bolted on to check width

Is that size box-section (especially given it's welded-in) going to as strong or stronger than the standard offering? What thickness is the box-section?

    Escort mk1 SR20 project

Box section is 40x40x3mm the standard chassis is a U section about 1.5 thick so will be considerably stronger plus we adding extra braces across

Ahh you're laughing so! So for a twinge more weight you're getting an awful lot more chassis stiffness?

Is the plan to be SR'ing it at Rockingham this year??

Hopefully will make it, things should move more quickly when the subframes have been test fitted

That's really cool, but I'm starting to wonder if it would have been less work to just drop the Escort body on an S14 floor...

not a lot of metal to hold that still on a roll over jig that would make me nervous that it would bend.

Very interesting project tho watching with interest.

that's what the extra temporary bracing is for to keep it solid on the jog

I must have missed the bracing. they seem to like to twist.

This escort has its share of rust that's getting cut out and replaced but no where near as much as the Nissan had

Today was a good day we started by clamping the rear subframe in place then bolted up some suspension parts and a wheel to see if the whole thing sat centre to arch, we adjusted it back then checked to see if a bubble arch would sit on but no
So the bubble arch will have to be flared but no big deal anyway here's the pics

Also got front subframe in place and with some modifications we will get the camber to -2 to start but can get plenty more negative if needed but no less than that
