    idle control valve or plugs?

Hi guys, I have an intermittent fault at the mo.. sometimes on idle my car seems to starting misfiring and gets progressively worse until it almost stalls.. If I leave it for a minute or so it picks up the revs again.

I also wondered if this is linked to something I have noticed for a while but thought I was just being silly; in first ( most distinctively anyway ) when I pull away with my foot hard down I get a very slow pull off.. then at around 20mph a massive kick as if the turbo was offline or the maf sensor is playing up?

I didn't know if it coupd be idle control valve because I didn't think that would have anything to do with throttle response when in gear/motion???

    Maybe plugs?

Any suggestions appreciated. . Having a full service this week and clutch change so hoping to fix the problem then

    Thanks in advance

    Ry

Check the wastegate as they can stick open a bit causing lag.

Is it missing or hunting at idle? if its hunting then its probably the idle speed valve.

Could well be plugs, how old are they? Mine was misfiring like a twat when it had crappy old plugs in

Get some quality new copper ones and set the gap right and report back.

The Turbo was refurbished and only fitted in January..do you think it could stick that early? Bloody hope not lol, I have a new fuel filter and set of iridium ngk plugs for the service kit so I'll be fitting them too just worried it could be maf sensor or something serious? I also have a spare maf sensor adapter that bolts onto the induction cone so I might try the other one out n see if it changes..

I'm not really sure what hunting is Mark.. lol it's not fluctuating erratically but it seems to burble really low and the whole car vibrates... if I rev it the vibration goes then comes back... doesn't always happen it's almost 50/50

    Would a video help?

Hunting is the revs dropping and rising, ifs its missing the revs will stay fairly even but the engine will shake and it will sound lumpy.

It's been a long time since I've ventured into S14 tech, and I'm slightly concerned to see the lack of obvious being suggested here.

I don't have any surge or indication from the boost gauge.. or would that not be where it comes from?

Try disconnecting your lambda and see how it behaves. I had similar symptoms and after replacing plugs, fuel filter, coil packs etc. it turned out to be a faulty lambda.
