    headunits

Apologies if this is the wrong section

Anywho the beemer has a sony headunit thats a few years old a a few buttons are a bit weak, plus its bright silver and red so stands out like a sore thumb.

So any recommendations? Im after a headunit similar to the jvc in my last mx5, it had bluetooth etc so wwhen i got in the car, i could just turn my phone on and it would play music (using stereo controls to skip etc) make phone calls (external mic) and use my google maps for directions.

so whos better quality/price nowdays? Looking up to £150 max budget need at least 2 preouts for my sub/amps that are going in soon, and want it to be black with a red/orange illumination to try amd match the e36 interior.

Currently looking at the alpine cde-183bt and sony Mex-n4000bt

oh and is it worth going mechless? Never use cd's but does it make any difference other than price?

I have one of these. And can't fault it.
    Pioneer DEH-X8500BT

2 usb slots. Aux cable input. Sd card. CD. Radio. Bluetooth.

    Good sound quality.

I tend to favour alpine - love the sound and they are reliable and well built

Alpine, Pioneer and JVC are the best HU's for sound quality. Sony's are probably the worst out of the 'big' names. Many have adjustable colour settings to match interiors. So out of the two you mention, go Alpine.

I've had 2 Pioneer headunits. One is 10 year old and still works perfectly.
Only reason I replaced it. Was I needed Bluetooth, and usb.

Another vote for alpine, in the past eight years I've had two alpine head units ( only replaced the first cos I let it go in a car I sold!!) and they have been awesome.

Great quality, easy to use and look classy compared to most.

On my current one you can change the illumination colour between green or orange, to
    Tie in with factory colours.
